Ive been reading some interviews with the director and Jane and Im even more psyched now. They both talk quite a bit about going back to 70s style action with limited CGI and the type of male lead characters we all know/love from back in the day (Clint, McQueen etc etc, the flawed, sometimes anti, hero). That freaking rocks. I liked Hulk, and Daredevil and stuff, but that kinda film just wouldnt work for the Punisher... and I totally dig old-style action films.

He had a few lines, but wasn't a major character.

Saw this tonight before Hellboy.
Personally, I don't think it looked any better than the Mark Goldblatt-directed film from the 80's. Why do I say that? Because I don't think The Punisher was ever a very good character to begin with. He's so one-note, and there's nothing that special about him. Someone mentioned that the director said he was trying to get it to feel like a 70's movie, but nothing about this trailer gave me the feeling of, say, Dirty Harry.
But, on a lighter note, there was this total fanboy kid sitting in front of me at the theater tonight, and he basically creamed his pants when this trailer came on. I've never seen a grown man squeal like a little girl over a guy with a few guns and a black shirt with a white skull on it. I guess there's a first time for everything.
And, yes, the actor looks very much like Christopher Lambert, so much so that I wish they had just gotten Christopher Lambert.
Edited to add: This post just pushed me over to platinum edition!

Since Suprmallet decided to rain on the folks parade and bring shame upon folks who actually like punisher (even though the amount of shirt wearing fans are huge) I feel the needed to make this un-56k-friendly and post scans of the postcards I have:

seriously The Punisher's logo is bad ass. 90% of the reason I am seeing this is so I can wear my Punisher SKull shirt and people will realize I am just a fan of The Punisher and not some goth kid.

Ray Liotta would've been a great Punisher. I'm curious to see how this turns out but honestly its not a priority to see with Kill Bill Vol. 2, Girl Next Door, and I still need to see Ladykillers and Hellboy out. Maybe I'll catch it at the dollar theater around the time Spider-Man comes out.

Well my plan worked out well. Will be seeing this and not have to pay for it. Good ol' preview screenings. They show me the movie and I may or may not provide them with the word of mouth that they want me to.

Actually Silver Surfer, Black Panther and Captain America are all in various stages of planning. Capatin America would be much farther along, but it was delayed while Marvel faought the Simon family over who really owned the character. That has now been setteled and Arad has said plans are moving forward.
Who would have thougt a a little used Vampire hunter would have turned into such a huge franchise?

Is 'The Punisher' getting a limited release?
I'm checking the listings in my area for Friday the 16th and The Punisher is not playing anywhere in my area.
It was a tossup for me to see Kill Bill vol 2 or The Punisher first this weekend, and now my choice is made.

Yes, I hear it will only play in art houses and Indie theaters....
Nah, it's just getting a much smaller theater release count. It's not really "limited" by any means.
