Damn, I had hope for this movie...now Travolta is in it? Damn.
Well, sorta serious.
Although he does play a great over the top character, so this could be to its advantage.
I am very surprised however that this movie just went so high profile. Travolta himself automatically elevates the pic to another level beyond mid-budget comic adaptation.

When I first saw Deep Blue Sea he reminded me so much of Lambert (even all my friends agree) that I immediatley took a liking to him (much like Samuel Le Bihan). The fact that he's a good actor made him cool in my book. But he seriously needs to beef up before shooting begins. Even in Deep Blue Sea he was much more muscular than he is in that picture. I'm not looking for 80's Schwarzzenneger but a few notches above his Deep Blue Sea physique. Still, I'm looking forward to this.

As much as I am a fan of Lambert, if you watched "Highlander: Endgame", he aged somewhat for an immortal
Overall, I'll look forward to the new Punisher movie with guarded interest. How "pumped" the Punisher is depends on which version of the comic book Punisher one likes the most:
- very muscular during the early appearances, although he ended up being a one note guest star in various titles.
- ended up looking like a brute with no neck in towards the endrun of the 3-4 Punisher titles that were out in the early 90's.
- somewhat more "normal" looking in the updated Garth Ennis version
For those who liked "classic" Punisher so much: remember the rubber bullets? Talk about weak...
I don't mind Thomas Jane: liked him in "Deep Blue Sea" plus he adds a haunted look to the Punisher. Plus I think the opposite of some things mentioned here in the thread, and hope ZERO mention of super-heroes be made ESPECIALLY Daredevil or Spider-Man. If Punisher is suppose to be a dark movie, throwing in a costumed hero two or in it would throw it off completely.
I also think making the Punisher Dolph Lungren-sized is a bad idea as well - the Punisher in the end, was a somewhat "normal" family man who ends up doing many abnormal things. What's the point if the Punisher already started out looking like some brute?
Also, the movie BETTER be Rated R...

IMHO, the Dolph Lundgren Punisher movie was a great guilty pleasure. The scene where he shoots up the illegal casino is one of the best senseless violence scenes ever. If you haven't seen the original Punisher movie it's worth checking out for that scene alone.
I think that Thomas Jane has the potential to pull it off, but he definitely needs to bulk up.
In my mind, the Punisher was best realized in comics by Mike Zeck, this is what the Punisher should look like:

The Punisher Sucks.
I agree with an earlier post about how they shouldn't even bother making this movie.

Thomas Jane to play the Punisher
Probably old news but according to IMDB.com Thomas Jane is going to star as Frank Castle in the movie version of the Marvel comics "The Punisher". Jane has been in DreamCatcher, The Sweetest Thing, and Boogie Nights.
The teaser is already up at www.quicktime.com.

Marvel has been brokering movie deals for alot of it's characters for the past ten years or so. They have all been on hold till the company emerged from bankruptcy about 3 or 4 years ago. So now it seems like they are all coming out at once, when in reality they've been in the planning stages seperately for quite some time.
The Punisher is one of Mavel's more "story driven" characters. He's not a super hero by any stretch. He has no super powers, he often clashes with the police, and he doesn't always do the right thing. The Punisher is more of an anti hero.
Like any Marvel movie, I have a hard time imagining the character in live action and on the screen. Back in 2000 when I went to see the X-Men I said to myself "How are you going to make the X-Men a movie?". And I was surprised and quite pleased with the result. Marvel is no doubt concious of the previous mistakes and blunders it made when other movies were made based on their characters ( though I have never seen it, the Fantastic Four movie is said to top the list of those blunders). With their recent track record ( X2, Hulk, Daredevil) I'm more willing to give the Punisher the benefit of the doubt. I don't think they would let the movie be made until they found a decent script and a competant director to head the project. I don't think it's very realistic to expect a "traditional" super hero movie ala Superman because the very nature of movie making has changed over the last 25 years.
Another thing is that Marvel characters, though very popular, are not as iconic as their DC counterparts with the exception of maybe Spiderman. Everyone knows Superman and Batman, but I had alot of people asking me who/what is Daredevil. So the movie will have to be a little better than the average super hero movie to bring in the fans that may have heard of the character but are not familiar with him.
Jack Savage, you should probably check out Daredevil on DVD. No it's not a literal translation of the comic but it's pretty good. That scene where Bullseye catches the glass and throws it sounds like you've seen it out of context. Which is the problem with alot of trailers. I do admit though that Bullseye looks like a reject from the Village People though. Not to get too far off topic, but Daredevil was one of my favorite Marvel heroes growing up, but again I imagine it would be difficult finding a decent story to portray on screen for him. He never had a really strong stable of villains and he's most of his character development takes place out of costume. But I think MSJ did a decent job of it.

Incidentily, Night Thrasher isn't slated to become a movie. It's going to be a weekly hour long series on UPN. Whether it will be any good or not, that's another story.
