Playing "chicken" with two tractors

You gotta' gotta' cut loose. Footloose!

I just turned on the TV and Footloose is on. I turned it on in the middle of the scene where Kevin Bacon is playing chicken on a tractor. What a scene! I haven't seen the film since it came out in 198whenever, but I have to say, rebelious teen movies aren't what they used to be.....

....for better or worse....

I've got friends who grew up in Provo and Spanish Fork, UT (Where the film was made.) They really do play chicken (and drag race, among other things) tractors there.

I believe it. It just struck me that what was a dramatic scene where our hero faces off against an antagonist was kind of campy.... and wholesome at the same time.

The Footloose remake would have them also shooting at each other while snorting cocaine or something.

If the remake was still set in Utah, I think smoking unfiltered cigarettes and drinking coffee while swearing at eachother would be the limit!

Sign That I Am Getting Too Old

I watch Footloose now, and I'm really beginning to come around to John Lithgow's opinion.

Honk!

Scary that as soon as I saw "Playing chicken with two tractors" I said, "that's gotta be Footloose."

I think it's interesting. I wouldn't have been able to make the immediate connection that einTier did, but I certainly remembered the scene VIVIDLY as soon as I saw it on the TV.

I remembered exactly how the tractor slides off the side of the road into the ditch, and the victory "moves" that Kevin Bacon makes from the top of his tractor.

I guess as a youth those scenes had some kind of impact.... gotta' gotta' cut loose...
