I will not, cannot argue with you on that one. I think you could argue that the Ode to Joy, at least, is a song.

I like the 9th in A Clockwork Orange.

Use of song in movie

'The Long Road' - Eddie Veder/Nusrat Fateh Ali from 'Dead Man Walking'
'Don't You Forget About Me' - Simple Minds from 'The Breakfast Club'.
'Naughty Naughty' - John Parr from 'Near Dark'.

That should do it for now...

Any song in any Wes Anderson movie, but especially the four Stones songs, "2000 Man" in Bottle Rocket, "I am Waiting" in Rushmore, and "She Smiled Sweetly"/"Ruby Tuesday" in Royal Tenenbaums.

Let's make it three for Trainspotting. "Lust For Life" by Iggy Pop crowns that opening.

"Hotel California" - In SPANISH - to introduce the Jesus in The Big Lebowski

Bjork's "Venus As A Boy" in Leon

Some of my fav's:

"The Sage" by Chico Hamilton Quintet in Boogie Nights (Great musical piece set to the daily lives of the characters)

"My Way" by Sid Vicious in Goodfellas (A nice way to wrap things up)

"This Woman's work" by Maxwell in Love and Basketball (Love-making at its best

"Baba O'Riley" by The Who in Summer of Sam (Similar to "The Sage" but obviously more energetic)

"Holiday Road" by Lindsay Buckingham in National Lampoon's Vacation (Always brings a smile to my face)

"If you leave me now" by Chicago in Three Kings (It's so out of place that it HAS to be brilliant

"Fight the Power" by Public Enemy in Do the Right Thing
(No explanation needed

I'm not understanding why some people need to learn the definition of "song?"

Their Spanish-language cover of "My Way" (called "A Mi Manera") was also included to great effect in The Heist (the Pierce Brosnan/Tom Skeritt version).

I'm blanking on some new ones, but the first one that came to my mind when isaw this thread was the Pixies "Where is My Mind" from Fight Club.

How about...

Cat Stevens' "the Wind" in Almost Famous,
Tito & the Tarantulas' "After Dark" in From Dusk Til Dawn
Lick the Tins' version of "Can't Stop Falling in Love" from Some Kind of Wonderful,
Eliot Smith's "Miss Misery" in Good Will Hunting

Yes indeed....i probably watched that clip 25 times in a row after seeing that for the first time...positively one of the most infectious songs i've ever heard in a film.

Another that comes to mind: Paint it Black in Stir of Echoes....
