Kevin Costner in Thirteen Days - that accent was painful to listen to.

Denise Richards in TWINE was truly abysmal and probably the single most excruciating performance ever put to celluloid....

Tara Reid in anything.

Keanu Reeves in most anything - especially Point Break, Sweet November, and Dracula.

Jennifer Jason Leigh in Hudsucker Proxy - ruined the movie for me.

Ingrid Bergman played scientists and doctors because she was a good actor not because she was a brilliant scientist. I'm tired of hearing people point to Denise Richads casting as unbelievable because of the part she was given to play, she would have been equally unbelievable if she played a hairdresser or a hooker. She sucks.
thinking 'bout it - you're right.

(She wasn't very good as a captain in Starship Troopers either)

still think Rolling Stone is a funny magazine. good pictures, too.

Gotta disagree. Are you sure it's the acting job and not the character that bothered you? I found her character pretty annoying the first time or two I saw it, but I think she does a pretty darn good job with it.

Also, I'll nominate Stephen King in Creepshow. Sadly hilarious in that he took it so seriously and failed so utterly miserably.

Jennifer Jason Leigh in The Hudsucker Proxy is another performance that is great if you understand where the character is coming from, and are familiar with the actresses being referenced.

Nicolas Cage in Con Air. While the performance itself may not be so bad, the accent is awful. Why is it so hard for actors to get the southern accent right?

Let's not forget Thora Birch in Dungeons & Dragons....
At least Irons was laughably over the top. Birch (who is generally quite good) was just a big stiff.

I'll add another vote for disagreeing with this one. I think her exaggerated Katherine Hepburnish imitation was perfect for the film's setting and the way in which it was so highly stylized.

Denise Richards in TWINE
Jake Lloyd in SW-TPM
Rene Russo in The Thomas Crown Affair
Catherine Zeta-Jones in anything and everything she has ever been in, including those cell phone commercials. She practically brought tears to my eyes while suffering through Entrapment. I'm sure someone will disagree with me on this, but your wrong

I don't even see how Catherine Zeta-Jones could be placed on the same list as Denise Richards.

Catherine may not be the greatest of all time, but she's definitely not Denise Richards for godsakes.

Another person who disagrees with this comment. I think she did a great job in creating that character. As others said, the character was being refernced from other films during that time period.

I think the key word there is "exaggerated"....it was so over the top that i just couldn't get past it. She just goes overboard with the accent and tries WAY too hard....and like i said, i found it sooo distracting that it ultimately ruined the movie for me.....which makes, in my mind, for an abysmal performance....

However, this is obviously a matter of taste, and seeing as how i just got this from the DDD $5.88 deal - I'm a huge fan of the Coen Bros and Paul Newman too for that matter - i'm going to give it another try soon enough. Perhaps my more refined film viewing skills in recent years will inspire a reevaluation of this sentiment....I hope so in all honesty.....

Sigh. Nepotism had less to do with her casting in Godfather III and more to do with Wynona Ryder falling into a spell of "fatigue" in the 11th hour. It was last minute casting to find a replacement and FFK went the easy route... go figure.

Anyway, while Sofia certainly had a stilted delivery and didn't exactly "command" the screen, the part was underwritten. She had little to do, but when she was on screen I never felt that she was particularily effective, but I didn't feel she was distracting either. Just... there.

IMHO anyway...

Your wrong, the word is "you're."

And I do disagree. I am not at all a CZJ fan, but I have never seen her give a performance that was abysmal.

And yet another person who disagrees.

Her character may be annoying, but JJL was spot-on in her performance. Definitely a reference to actresses of that time frame in the film.
