This year may be the first year that I saw less than 75 movies in the theatre. But, overall, 2002 is shaping up to be a very good movie year. A few months were very bad - namely July through November, but I now have quite a few movies to see to close out the year - which is great.

Here is my list as of 17-Jan-03. I have a few to see yet, which means that this list is a Work in Progress.

2002 Movies by Star Rating

4 Stars - Creme de la Creme

Too many four star ratings. This should be reserved for a very small number of films. One or two a year at the most.....

Well, I'll also add the 2001 movies that I've seen since January 1st to my list since I never really bothered with the "2001 Rank Them As You See Them Thread". I'm using a 0 to 5 star rating.

LOTR: The Fellowship Of The Rings (second viewing) - ****
Bande A Part (rerelease) - ***
The Royal Tennenbaums - ****1/2
In The Bedroom - **1/2
The Count Of Monte Cristo - ***1/2
The Mothman Prophecies - 1/2* (because I'm feeling generous)

I disagree. I think you're equating the four-star rating to an "A+" on a grading scale. To me (and most other people) four stars simply signifies that a film is "Great", as opposed to "Very Good" (three-and-a-half stars) or just "Good" (three stars). The way most people do it, four stars can mean an "A+", a straight "A" and sometimes an "A-", or 9-10/10. On average, I see about 15 films in a given year that I consider to be "great."

But whatever.

To me, four stars implies that the film was perfect. A good round estimate would be ten (3 1/2 star) for every one (4 star).....Maybe the five star scale works better.....

Guys, read the disclaimer in the first post. This thread is for posting your lists, not debating them. If you guys keep arguing back and forth the thread will get too long and won't last the whole year. Then everyone will have to move their lists to a new thread and noone will be happy. So keep on topic and delete some of your off topic non-list posts please.

Anyway to get on topic, I finally saw my first 2002 movie so I'll begin my list here. (And delete the above comments when the matter is fixed).

1. The Count of Monte Cristo
