I found the following infomation about Escape From New York SE at Davisdvd.com
Director John Carpenter's 1980 classic Escape From New York will return in a new special edition DVD package in 2003. Among the disc's many extras (including a commentary track, new interviews and more), this new release will finally present the alternate bank robbery opening in its entirety. "We recently found 10 minutes of the film’s intro that we had shot in Atlanta, which we cut from the film and then lost," said Carpenter. "After we found the three-quarter-inch videocassette and Debra Hill found the sound stems in my storage, we cleaned up the picture and then Kurt Russell and I went in and provided commentary for the scene, which will be on the new DVD as a standalone deleted scene." Escape From New York: Special Edition will be released day-and-date with Hurricane Entertainment’s new "John Carpenter's Snake Plissken" comic book series, currently due in early 2003.

The Digital Bits posted the following:
In other news today, we've got word from Babylon 5 creator/executive producer J. Michael Straczynski that Warner will be following the release of Season One (set for 11/5) with Seasons Two and Three next year (reportedly in April and November of 2003, respectively). And Warner's launched an official website for the series on DVD as well.

I see Event Horizon is in bold now. It is confirmed then? I hope so!
Still holding out for a new Conan The Barbarian. If the R2 has 5.1 but R1 doesn't, well it seems that another release isn't too far fetched. Anyone heard anything?
Also, I thought I read something about Star Gate getting a Superbit release. Perhaps I was drunk?
Many thanks to everyone involved in this thread. It's a great resource. Cheers!

Stargate is going to be an Ultimate Edition not a Superbit. Stargate UE will be released on 10/22/02. BTW, do you have the Director's Edition of Frank Herbert's Dune if you do on the back of it is the Stargate UE cover.

Any word on whether Blade will be redone now that Blade 2 is out? If not, it might be worth picking up Blade 2 for $14.99 and Blade for $9.99 at BestBuy on 9/3.

Shouldn't the Criterion re-releases of 400 Blows and Beauty and the Beast be listed? Especially since there is now talk that the spine numbers will be the same. Publishing such re-release information may thwart people from paying inflated prices on eBay for these titles.

"The dubbed version of trainspotting, what language was it dubbed into? Given that it was in english to begin with..."
Filmed in English, dubbed into American. We in the States are a little too slow to pick up the Scottish accents.
Also, does anyone know if Animal House is getting a re-issue, or why it went out of print? (I know the CE is still available at Columbia House)

With Philadelphia being price dropped this week to under $10 at most b&m stores, does that mean the SE is soon on it's way. This is a great price for this movie and will get it if the SE is not in the near future.

Meanwhile, as someone mentioned, the current DVDs are just working through their inventory - no new shipments. Let's see, box office smash, old DVD not available ... things that make you say ..... hmmmmm.

www.DavisDVD.com reports...
"Warner Home Video, in association with French production group MK2, will be
unleashing what it promises to be definitive editions of Charlie Chaplin's
"Little Tramp" films next year. The Charlie Chaplin Collection is set to
include 18 silent and sound classics, all currently undergoing extensive
digital restoration. Each title will be released as a 2-disc set that will
include exclusive commentaries, documentaries, outtakes, alternate footage,
still galleries, and other materials.
A notorious craftsman, Chaplin re-edited certain titles years after their
original release (most famously, 1942's The Gold Rush which trimmed scenes &
subtitles and added a new score). Purists can rest easy, Warner & MK2 will
include both versions whenever applicable. The first three films in the
collection, The Great Dictator, City Lights and The Circus, will be released
worldwide in June 2003 (The Great Dictator is due in France this November).
Each title will be released in two styles - a double-disc digipak (SRP
$26.99) and a box set including a film frame and an extensive booklet (SRP
$34.99)."
Lawrence of Arabia is a tentative Superbit title. It would most likely be a movie-only 2-discer. A new DTS track has been made for the recent 40th anniversery re-release in 70mm, so it would be a good tie in. AND FIX THE COLOR TIMING!
