Re: Region-Free BD Player: Momitsu BDP-899?

The irony? The day after the machine broke, I received the Snow White BD, my first bluray disc. Ha!
I laugh about it more than just being mad or frustrated. There is always another day.

Sending it off for repair tomorrow.

Didn't realize the Momitsu FW disables the 7.1 Analog output, so I went back to the Curtis Mathes FW.
One would have thought that with the Momitsu FW the CM would be able to decode DTS Master and output to 7.1.

Re: Region-Free BD Player: Momitsu BDP-899?

On the Momitsu or its clones, I noticed when you press the Display Info button during playback, it only displays the current runtime of the disc. Is there no way to see the remainin runtime or chapter runtime?

Not on the Curtis Mathes. Biggest drawback for me, not having a display that shows remaining run time or BD/DVD details.

Re: Region-Free BD Player: Momitsu BDP-899?

So, without going through all 11 pages, can someone who has had their player for a while tell me overall how they feel about it? I've read some earlier reviews that all sound great but I want to make sure its stayed positive over some time. I'm really looking to make this the only machine I need for dvds or blus.

Edit- I've been doing some reading tonight about the Curtis Mathes players, can anyone confirm that the cmmbx72 can be made region free in the same way as the 130?

Re: Region-Free BD Player: Momitsu BDP-899?

I think that was asked before, but I'm guessing no one has checked or bought one. I love my Curtis 130, it works great. I do have one HUGE issue - for some reason my Region B copy of Spinal Tap will not play at all. It loads, and it sounds like it's about to start, but it just frezzes. I need to look around to see if there is anyone else with this problem. I also have Shallow Grave, Trainspotting, Sexy Beast, and The Nest, and all work flawlessly. The Nest is region free though.

Is the Curtis Mathes 130 a good player even without flashing the Momitsu Firmware to it?

Re: Region-Free BD Player: Momitsu BDP-899?

I think so. Im using the Curtis firmware right now. I'm pondering on flashing it with the Momitsu in hoping that'll allow Spinal Tap to play.

Re: Region-Free BD Player: Momitsu BDP-899?

The Curtis firmware doesn't recognize Akira.

If I flash to the Momitsu (assuming the FW will recognize it), I lose the 7.1 Analogs for my 11 year old receiver.

So it looks like I may have to buy a new receiver.

Thanks. I'm thinking about making my next big DVD purchase being the HDMI Switch mentioned here (Monoprice) and a Curtis Mathes off a Third-Party seller. We'll see though.

Definitely wanting most of those great Horror Region B BD's (and to replace my Philips 727)

Re: Region-Free BD Player: Momitsu BDP-899?

I have the Momitsu BDP-799, and I think the picture quality is stunning -- on Blu and on upconverting SD DVD's from Region 2. I've been using a Panasonic DMP-BD35 with my Panasonic Viera 58" plasma, and I gotta say -- the Momitsu does a better job with both Blu and SD DVD. I'm just joe-viewer, not a techie who's measuring black levels & all that stuff, and to my untrained eyes (that know how to appreciate nice picture quality!) the Momitsu is a better player than my Panny!

Can someone confirm that the remote hack on the BDP-799 is the same as the 899? Thanks!

First of all, that is a pretty sketchy way to determine if a business is gone, and second, the website is not down.

That's not the Momitsu clone, the CMMBX130. So don't buy it expecting region-free DVD or BD.

I'm having trouble finding info on this model. Basically, does this Curtis Mathes Blu-ray Disc Player CMMBX72 sold at Target play everything - all NTSC and PAL DVDs and all Blu Rays from all over the world?

Are you saying it can't be made region free like the other Curtis Mathes model? Or just out of the box it can't.

I've been waiting to hear if this model has region free ability that the 130 did (same as the Momitsu 799 and 899)

Sorry, guess this is the other model that still isn't confirmed region-free. Has no one tried it yet?
