I thought so too at first, but the MoC is NTSC and they did a hell of a good job on the disc so unless you're going for CC's extras (which are only the Sato interview and a booklet), I'd stick to MoC - there's really nothing to lose.

Well, I can't let NoirFan be the only one to buy good international cinema. All from amazon.co.uk:

"Akasen Chitai/Yokihi [Masters Of Cinema] [1955]"
"Bill Douglas Trilogy [1972]"
"Tropical Malady (Sud Pralad) [2004]"
"Judex/Nuits Rouges [Masters of Cinema] [1963]"

NF: how much cheaper did you figure the Douglas Trilogy was at cdwow?

At the time, it was $25.99. Price is now $31.00. I'd keep an eye on that Judex pre-order - usually Amazon's prices on pre-orders eventually drop down to 40% off, which is where Vampyr and Le Vie de Jesus are now.

But the Pre-order Price Guarantee comes through in the end, yeah?

("Amazon.co.uk's price for not-yet-released items sometimes changes between the time the item is listed for sale and the time it is released and dispatched. Whenever you pre-order a book, CD, video, DVD, software, or video game, the price you pay will be the lowest price offered by Amazon.co.uk between the time you placed your order and up to and including the release date.")

Sorry, I totally forgot about that. Yet another reason why Amazon.co.uk kicks ass. I'll add it to my existing Vampyr pre-order.

Wasn't there a thread here for bargains at Amazon and other foreign etailers? Here's a good find: Fellini Boxset: ORCHESTRA REHEARSAL, GINGER AND FRED & AND THE SHIP SAILS ON for £10.98 at Amazon.co.uk. Apparently the aspect ratio of Ship is incorrect, though I'm not sure how much of the image is lost compared to the Criterion. Perhaps Pro-B could shed some light on this. The transfer looks comparable to that of the Criterion, which was not one of their better releases. The main reason to purchase this set (which is 66% off) is the inclusion of a 12 part, 6 hour (!) Italian television series on Fellini and his films, as well as a full-length documentary on Mastroianni, though the latter is about an hour shorter than in it's original form. As for the transfer of Ginger and Fred, the WB R1 is supposed to be a bit sharper, but for this price the whole set is a real no brainer when you take into consideration the copious extras.

Noir Fan, I am sorry, I did not see your question earlier.

You should really think twice before placing an order for the Infinity discs of Fellini's films. They aren't any more satisfying than what we have seen through Criterion. The Ship Sails On in particular isn't much better than their Taviani discs - lack of anamorphic enhancement, etc. The color scheme however is once again (!) better than what the Criterion disc reveals. I think that it is a minor upgrade but the lack of anamorphic enhancement is particularly disappointing. Especially given that most of Infinity's Fellini discs were released after the Criterions.

Pro-B

ps
By the way, you definitely want to pick the UK release of Fellini's Juliet Of The Spirits by Noveaux Pictures. It is a direct replica of the restored Italian print and blows the Criterion away in every single department (it is not reviewed at DVDBeaver). This is arguably the best treatment Fellini has received in the UK. This disc:

I ordered Vampyr Masters of Cinema from Amazon.co.uk.

It came out cheaper than what the Criterion would cost me from DVDPlanet.

Thanks for the tip, but it looks like this is only available from third party sellers at the moment. Is the disc OOP?
