Shaw Brothers weekly sale at DDDHouse

DVD Talk Ultimate Edition
I've been browsing Shaw Brothers Titles at
www.thedvdetective.com
and they have what appear to be thai versions released by Celestial for $12.99 instead of their normal $14.99 price for the IVL/Celestial Releases.
Has anyone looked into the Thai disks? I'm hoping they are of the same quality as the IVL/Celestial releases I own.

The tai versions are on dvd-5. When compared to their HK counterparts that are on dvd-9, the video quality takes a hit.

Some new Shaw Brothers titles currently on the "weekly cheap sale" list, all priced and HKD35:
Emperor Chien Lung and The Beauty
The Pure and the Evil
The Singing Thief
We Love Millionaires
Singing Thief looks as if it might be a variation on Hitchcock's To Catch A Thief, and We Love Millionaires was undoubtedly "inspired" by How To Marry A Millionaire.
Five previous titles still showing on the list: Big Brother Cheng, Family Light Affair, Kidnap, When The Clouds Roll By and The Younger Generation.

I have now received 16 titles that have been offered on this sale - and every single one of them was a sealed factory-fresh copy.

Damn. I need to sell a kidney or something. With my DDD, DVDEmpire, DDDHouse, Columbia House, Amazon Pre-orders and Ebay orders I've bought 30 movies so far this month.

I ordered Killer Snakes, which look to be great fun!
I already have The Tea House and its sequel Big Brother Cheng which is also on sale - enjoyed them both.

Well it looks to be the death of this thread finally. It has been over a month since DDDHouse has put any new Shaws in the Weekly Cheap Sale. I emailed them if they were going to add some new titles and this is their response....
"The "Shaw Brohters films" in weekly cheap sale will not be continued soon because
the distributor stop to offer."
It was fun while it lasted. Guess Cd-Wow is the last refuge for cheap shaw discs. Although the last wave of titles were $4 more expensive than usual. Hope that trend doesn't continue since there are quite a few must-haves coming in the next couple months.

Yes, I've been checking their weekly specials regularly, and nothing! Oh well, I managed to pick up about 20 SB titles at a great price, and we can always hope ....

It's a shame these deals are going away...
So is cd-wow the cheapest place to buy Shaw Bros. DVDs now? The regular prices at dddhouse seem fairly reasonable.

DDDHouse or Layoyo is the way to go if CD-Wow doesn't carry a particular Shaw release or for some of the titles that are priced $14.95 after discount. Unless you are buying several discs, shipping usually kills the deals found on DDDHouse and Layoyo. That being said, DDDHouse and Layoyo have pretty good preorder prices for upcoming Shaw discs. HK$80 and HK$74 respectively for the previous wave. They also stock almost all of the previous Celestial releases, whereas CD-Wow will stop carrying some of the older titles with no warning.

I recently got a chance to watch the Anonymous Heroes DVD that I bought a few months back and was astonished to see that it had an english commentary track. None of my other Celestial discs have one. Is there a list of which ones do anywhere?

I haven't seen any list of which have commentary tracks, but I believe they only did this with some of the earliest releases. Whenever there is a commentary it's in the specs at hkflix and at pokerindustries.
The titles that I own with commentaries are:
Hong Kong Nocturne
Till The End Of Time
House of 72 Tenants
Killer Clans
