Weren't the original theatrical releases of Hero by Guangdong Face NTSC?

Also, Layoyo's specs on mainland releases are none too reliable from my experience. Three examples: Spring Subway, Together and Pretty Big Feet all have English subs but you wouldn't know it from their site, nor buy it if you were looking for it.

If this is the real deal and after all the waiting and watching we're finally getting Hero: Extended Edition on DVD with English subs...I think this thread needs a little bit better title. Come on, at least one exclaimation point a few capital letters. You could just skim right over this thread and never even see it.

But seriously, this sounds like good news for those of us who've been waiting.

DDDHouse has it now:

DVD-5
DVD-9
DVD-9 SE

They list it as DD and PAL too. Interesting.

Or if it's anamorphic. I can take PAL right now, as long as its not anamorphic widescreen.

Awww... DDDHouse says "DD, PAL, Letterbox". Of course, I wanted "DTS, NTSC, 16x9 anamorphic".

Anyone have trouble contacting [email protected]?

I've sent several e-mails to cancel my order, and each one rejects.

(By the way....I think the 8DU charge is a ripoff for the EXT SE)

so.. the difference between the DVD-9 and the DVD-9SE is that the former has 30min worth of supplements, the latter an expanded 60min, I would assume it's not subtitled, right?

Hero extended

Hi!

I wrote to 4 online retailers who sell the extended version of Hero for confirmation of the video format, widescreen enhancement and DTS audio presence.

I haven't got any replies yet, except for Layoyo.com and they said they would confirm tomorrow.

What I can say is that 3 out of 4 of these legit online retailers list the dvd as PAL without DTS and they don't specify wether it's anamorphic or not (that would be dumb IMHO).

Let's wait and hope it's not a major disappointment...

BTW, the retailers are DDDHouse.com, Layoyo.com, DVDAsian.com and Edaymovie.com.

------UPDATE------
Reply from DDDHouse.com

I don't beleive China version products unless the disc test in my hand, it has not been arrived here yet, it has no dts, many of China version movie are PAL system, although the previous cut version is 16:9 and NTSC, I have to wait it out and reconfirm, please visit our site 2 days after.

Reply from DVDAsian.com:

Hi, According to our supplier information, it is PAL dvd due to China is PAL country. But we will verify and correct when it is arrived at our side.

Reply from Layoyo.com

I will confirm it by supplier on tomorrow, it's because now is 9:03pm , they're offwork now, sorry about that.

Reply from EdayMovie.com

The item "Hero" DVD (Deluxe Extended Edition - 180 minutes) is Original imported from the publisher "GDFACE". This item is in the NTSC format and the DVD Regional Code is ALL (compatible with any regional code of DVD player). Since this item will release on 7/22/2004 and we'll get stock on 7/26/2004, we have no information on the picture format (non-anamorpic widescreen OR anamorpic widescreen), as we known, it's in the Widescreen 1:2.35 ratio. We'll be gladly to inform you this information once we have stock on hand.

So this Director's Cut is only 20 minutes longer? 118 min vs ORIGINAL 98 min.

20 minutes is great, and I wonder which scenes gets expanded.

Welcome to the forum, BredStik.

Please, post what the retailers says about specifications as soon as you hear anything.

I´m sure many of us are anxious to know as to video format, DTS or not, subtitle on bonus material. I´m eager to order... but not before I know for sure.

I posted comments in this thread about the differences between the two cuts.

*EDIT* Correction - it looks like the DVD-9 and DVD-9 SE both have DTS. Read on for the link to cnave.com...

I think I'm going for this extended version SE dvd, and pass on the other versions.

I just emailed Foreign Movie Buff (eBay seller) about the discs specifications. Since he's been shipping them out to buyers, he probably has some on hand, so he should have the correct specifications. No reply yet however...

Considering foreign_movie_buff's poor feedback on ebay, and the bootleg anime they sell as "officially licensed" product, it's not exactly a trustworthy source.

I love how foreignmoviebuff will sell the same DVD for 7.99 or 18.99. If you calculate the shipping for the 4.99 version, the shipping is 17.00. The 18.99 one is $6 shipping. The "free shipping" policy is also confusing. It took a few back and forth messages to try to figure it out. I decided it wasn't worth it.

I don't trust foreignmoviebuff at all.

-----UPDATE-----

DVDAsian.com just updated their specification for the Hero: Extended Edition DVD. (at first, it was listed NON ANAMORPHIC PAL ALL-REGION WITHOUT DTS)... Here's the good news for most of us:

The new specification state that the DVD is

ANAMORPHIC NTSC ALL REGION
DOLBY DIGITAL AND DTS AUDIO

Here's a link: Hero Extended Edition Specifications
