question: IMDB denotes that 'Kill Bill Vol.1" is rated three times for it's South Korean theatrical/video distribution. One (original theatrical release) as being called 'Limited' -what the hell does that mean?. 18 for a video DVD 'uncut edition' (?!) and another 18 for rerated cut version. Why so many versions?

Why has this yet to be reported there? Besides, dvdlimited.com has to be the most dodgy looking site i've seen. Perhaps they are legit, but i'd rather wait, get the double box and avoid any potential rip-offs. Postcards or an allegedly low print run don't exactly give me chills, either.

Nothing is mentioned on cdjapan or amazon.jp sites yet either. When Japanese DVDs are listed there, I tend to treat them as more official. (that said, cdjapan has the Kill Bill Vol 2 soundtrack up for pre-order with a release date of April 7th)

The only way to really stay informed of Japanese R2 titles is to trawl the R2 sites for preorders. CDJapan is usually amongst the last to publish preorders, so I tend to trawl sites like discstation, comodo, or amazon. A language translater becomes a necessity, but often times I'll just choose a particular actor/title and then check the hyperlinks to their other works. To complicate matters, Japanese etailers rarely provide many details about upcoming releases. By the time non-genre specific sites catch on, it's usually been quite a while...very understandable given the relative lack of information available. As for Kill Bill it doesn't look anything is finalized as none of the Japanese etailers have any edition up for preorder. I imagine a release date isn't 100% firm yet.

I got an e-mail today from Amazon.jp and their taking pre orders for Kill Bill. It doesn't mention the limited edition set, though.

It seems the Kill Bill Vol.1 Japanese Premium Box is up for grabs at HMV.co.jp and Amazon.co.jp.

Not sure about the amazon if it's the right one.

2 questions...

1. How's HMV.co.jp?

2. Do they charge early for pre-orders?

That's the right link for Amazon. Looks like the limited version is 30,000 pcs and not 3000. Here's a small picture of the bonus items:

Just ordered my Limited Edition box for Amazon. God, it looks great! I hope the sword doesn't get it stopped at U.S. Customs!

I doubt it, since first of all it'll be inside the dvd box (see above link), and no one would be able to tell that there's a sword in it. And even if they did, it should be no bigger, or even sharper, than a butter knife.

can't afford the box, but I did just pre-order the regular edition with my Amazon Platinum card, which the website recognized - cool.

When did they put that pre-order up at Amazon? I was looking all over their site for it the yesterday. I ended up cancelling my original order for the regular edition and pre-ordered the boxset. Can't wait.

We have had definite confirmation from Universal Japan that there will be no English subtitles just for the Japanese speaking parts of the movie. It will be the same deal as with the 4-Disc Japanese Dances With Wolves release, you have to turn the subtitles on / off when you want them or have them on for the whole span of the movie.

Our article here.

That's no problem for me, since I've seen the movie so many times at the theater I already know the translated dialogue by heart. Plus, I'm also getting the R1 version if I need a refresher.

What do I need to do to be able to translate the website and go through the checkout process?

There's an "In English" button on the blue toolbar on the main page. It doesn't help much when browsing the site, but it will allow you to do the checkout process in English.

try to use http://babelfish.altavista.com and let it translate the amazon.co.jp page. it's much more comfortable than the "display in english" feature.

Thanks guys. I think I figured it out more or less. Only tricky part was the confirming email and password at checkout.

Woke up this morning to find my email update waiting for me.
Ordered the Premium Boxset.
Amazon lists it as having DTS and not to worry as the "Sword" is a 1/10th replica. Don't think there'll be too many problems. Now I'll have to explain this to my wife as she was "less than enamored" with the "Otaku movie for Otakus written by an Otaku."

Don't worry about it. Its a Japanese language thing. "Furigana" means hirigana characters used to clearly translate some possibly difficult to pronounce kanji characters, especially in Japanese names. At any rate, it can be ignored in setting up an account.

This limited set looks very nice. I can't wait to get it! I collect some of those Kubrick figures anyway (Planet of the Apes, Universal Monsters, etc), and a Kill Bill one would be nice to add to the collection.
