Ronin Ultimate Edition R2 Has Arrived

I just got my Ronin UE DTS today! I am very impressed with Amazon Japan. Only took 7 days to get here with their cheapest shipping. When I opened the package, my heart jumped when I saw only one disc! However, stuck on the other side with disc 2 was disc #1. The packaging is very nice. It is a very nice digipack.

The chapter insert is included which should be on the back of the box when you first see it. I have it sitting inside the package now.

Even though someone already gave a review (see the Ronin Has Shipped Thread), I plan on doing one myself soon after watching it.

Big thumbs up to Amazon Japan for shipping the way they did. An item that was supposed to arrive between August 16th & the 28th, arrived in perfect time for me.

For those interested, the English Subtitles do come up when Deniro is speaking in the bar and asking for where the bathroom is. Picture so far is great and the sound gives me chills.

Damn, I got packages today from Korea, Amazon.fr, Amazon.de, and Amazon.jp but Ronin was one of them! Got my fingers crossed for tomorrow.

Okay, I just finished watching the Ronin DVD. All subtitles were where they should be. The DTS track is fantastic. Best scene(s) for the DTS were probably the Car chase through the tunnel & the shoot out at the stop light (along with that car chase & finish). There were many others but those stand out. A+++++++++ DVD! Haven't check out the features on disc two yet.

Kick Ass Digi Pak
DTS
2 Disks

Why the hell does Japan always have the coolest dvds!?!?!

I just watched it....and boy was I impressed. The shootout and car chases were awesome in DTS.

I also noticed an insert for more Ultimate Editions including:
Terminator
X-men
Die Hards 1-3
Predator
Speed

With the exception of Predator, are these disks pretty much the same as the American SEs?

The Terminator has a DTS track. The American disc doesn't. However, the Japanese copy drops the original mono track, which the American has.

Sweet!

And free shipping with orders over $49. Any recommendations for what else to fill out the order with? The Terminator Ultimate Edition is listed as out of print.

You could get Blade DTS Edition (if you don't already have it)

With regards to Terminator UE

If I have the R1 SE, should I go through the trouble of getting the Japanese version? Does the DTS make an overall difference.

Right now I'm trying to decide between getting Terminator UE (from amazon) or Blade DTS (from yesasia) before the $5 coupon expires.

Not a fan of the movie. Any other recommendations?

Haven't heard the DTS track myself, but keep in mind that it will be the same goofy 5.1 mix from the American disc with its questionable choices in directing sounds to different speakers. The American disc also allows you the option of listening to the original mono sound mix. The Japanese does not (making it a not-so-"Ultimate" Edition afterall).

I recieved the Terminator UE earlier this week and it comes in a classy foil digipak. As far as the DTS track goes, the answer is yes, the difference is quite substantial in some scenes and I personally prefer it. As its been stated it, doesn't contain the Mono track, but thats no loss if you already have a copy of the r1. The Japanese DVD makes a great companion piece to that although if the loss of the Mono track doesn't bother you, the Japanese UE contains everything else featured on the R1. As far as the Blade DVD is concerned, its a huge dissapointment. Being taken from a different master to the R1, theres a substantial lack of lowend compared to the R1 DD, which is saying something. Because the R1 sounds awfully compressed compared to the same mix featured on the DTS laserdisc of this title...

Well then.....it's settled....now where's the best place to buy Terminator UE.....Amazon Japan or HMV.

Bill Geiger mentioned that he received his Ronin UE from AJ in about 7 days (using the cheapest shipping rate). Could HMV improve over that?

Why the hell don't we have a store forum dedicated to international retailers?

HMV, I would avoid them. I say that because of their shipping costs.

As for a disc to get, how about Winged Migration R3 DTS.

The R2 PAL and R4 PAL of Predator (2 Discers) are the exact same thing in content.

Awesome discs! What's different about R4 Predator 2? I thought that was OOP.

If you order it, let me know if the transfer is anamorphic. It doesn't say at the site.
