Our friends over at the R-2 Project have been posting screen shots from the international version of the upcoming Black Hawk Down: Special Edition DVD. The international version is a 2-disc release with the following extras (this may not be a totally comprehensive list): anamorphic widescreen video (2.35:1), Digital Digital 5.1 sound, audio commentary with director Ridley Scott and Jerry Bruckheimer, audio commentary with author Mark Bowden & screenwriter Ken Nolan, audio commentary with real Task Force Ranger veterans MSgt. Matt Eversmann, Col. Tom Matthews (Ret.), Col. Danny McKnight (Ret.) and Col. Lee Van Arsdale (Ret.), The Essence of War: Making Black Hawk Down documentary, Designing Mogadishu featurette, production design archive, storyboards, Ridleygrams, Jerry Bruckheimer's BHD photo album, photo galleries, title design explorations and 6 deleted scenes plus a narrated opening and an alternate ending (with optional audio commentary by Ridley Scott).

Thats an impressive feature list. Hope they also have a DTS track for the r1 SE though I would still get it as is.

I know many of us are excited about the R1 SE of this movie, but this thread's still about specs for an R2 disc, so I'm moving it to International Forum. When the R1 specs come out, I'll be glad to read about them in Main.

Charlie De Lauzirika has commented on the audio-tracks on the Black Hawk Down dvd-release coming early next year in region 1.

The dvd will not feature dts on it after all.
He explaines that because of the many extra features on the discs that there wasn't any room to fit the dts track on it.
To bad if you ask me, but hey I'm betting Columbia Tristar will probably release a Superbit dvd of this anyway.

Yup, I'm holding out for the eventual Superbit.

3 discs should give room for DTS

If the R1 version is 3-disc, as claimed, then presumably it would have room for DTS.

In the UK, when you buy the 2 disc version you're offered a Black Hawk Down multiplayer demo which is a disc playable on PCs. What it actually is I have no idea but presumably this is the third disc ? You can also get a free copy of Mark Bowden's book which seems a pretty good "added value" item.

Bitbug,

The 3-disc release coming early 2003 will not feature dts sound.
This was confirmed by dvdproducer Charles De Laurizika who produces Black Hawk Down for Scott Free Prod.
