Europa Europa due Aug 26 zone 2

Europa Europa is finally getting a DVD release. Its zone 2. I have no information on specs ie Anamorphic etc, so if anyone has info, that would be great. Play.com has a release date of Aug 16 listed, but both Amazon and Bensonsworld indicate the 26th.

Also, I just found out that there's a new release of Pandora's Box on DVD in UK. The film can be viewed with English or German titles and it features the documentary "Looking for Lulu". And, according to Amazon.co.uk

This release runs well over two hours and includes, for the first time in decades, over 30 minutes of cut footage, restoring the film to something very close to Pabst's original masterpiece

Have you seen any mention of the DVD quality? I was thinking about picking it up, but I haven't because of the possible Criterion release. There is a Spanish dvd of Europa available already with English subs. The quality is nothing to write home about. Hopefully the Tartan release will be a lot better, but you never know with them.

Hi there, I think you are thinking of a different film, if you mean the one in your dvd list. Odd, I was looking at that film because of my search for Europa Europa. The film I'm talking about is this one: http://us.imdb.com/Title?0099776 from 1990. Its German title is Hitlerjunge Salomon. But thats for the comment anyway and for the peak at your DVDs.

He was talking about my comment about already having Europa. I was thinking about the Von Trier Movie and thought Europa Europa was just another name for it. Thank's for the Pandora review. I don't know if I should pick it up or not. The reviewer seemed to slag the video, but then again He doesn't compare it to other releases from the same time and isn't a fan of silent films. I hope some one on Dvd Times or another site will review it a little better.

...there is the (Danish) movie made by Danish director Lars von Trier and referred to (perhaps mistakenly???) as Europa but known to me - and the approximately 11 other people who ever saw it - under the title

...there is also the (French/German) movie made by Polish director Agnieszka Holland and referred to (correctly) as Europa Europa ("International" title) - the German title being Hitlerjunge Salomon...

...both movies were released in 1991, both have to do - directly &/or indirectly - with Nazis &/or Nazism ... which may have contributed to the confusion...

I am definitly waiting for this one to replace my worn tape. But if in full frame no way.

The entry in ScreachingWeasel list of discs indicated widescreen 1.85:1 (not anamorphic though). Maybe the play.com is a different release? Defintely has a different cover but both are zone 2. I'd never heard of this film. I don't even remember how I heard of Europa Europa. I'm sure I didnt' see it in the theater but rented it.

The Play release is from Tartan(UK) and the one I have is a Spanish dvd 1:85 non anamorphic. I hope the Tartan release is widescreen. Here is the Spanish dvd.
