Like the subject says, are there any other releases out there -- ie. AB or anything or is it just the Media Asia version? Also, is hivizone the cheapest place to find it or are there better places?

thanks a lot,

Tuan Jim

That's the only version I'm aware of. I'd really like somebody to do this movie justice with a 16:9 transfer and extras. Easily one of Top 5 favorite HK flicks.

I just watched it tonight -- absolutely incredible. The only thing that pissed me off was that cheesy over-the-top ending. It would have been more fitting in a movie like Hard Boiled or A Better Tomorrow (I've been on a Woo rental spree if you can't tell -- and just picked up a copy of hard boiled:cc off half.com). The ending was just so out of place compared to the setting/theme/mood of the whole movie IMO.

Excellent movie overall though.

But do you know if hivizone is the cheapest place or are there other places to order from?

You need to know two things about HK movies:

1) The Asian DVD Guide and its forums can answer just about all technical questions about HK DVDs.
2) Do a search on 'DDDHouse' in the DVD Talk and DVD Bargains forums to answer your last question. These are generally the two most popular forums.

Get the Hong Kong VCD. It features the much shorter alternate ending in which Tony Leung kills Waise Lee in the conference room. No lame car chase. Also, the musical score on the VCD is different in some spots from the DVD and much better in my opinion. The prison camp sequence where Jacky is forced to shoot other POWs has much better music on the VCD and is way more powerful because of it.
