Here's a quick update for those of you here who used our original pages that listed DVDs on sale at Amazon.co.uk by price.

We have now updated this service to provide instead a search engine that allows you to query Amazon.co.uk's DVD catalogue and have the output sorted by price, title, actors, ASIN or date added to our records.

The output results are fully 'clickable' so you can resort your results by another field or launch a new search on one of the results fields as you wish.

As you will recall (probably), being able to search by price is pretty handy when you have a gift voucher (or otherwise limited budget) to spend and want to see what you can get for your money... or maybe you just want to find the cheapest DVD starring Julia Roberts...

Start your search from the following URL...

http://j4fcgi.ipfox.com/just4fun.amazondvd.pl

... and here are some example searches to jump right into...

Find all DVDs costing £9.99
Find all DVDs with "house" in the name and sort list by price.

I hope you find this updated service a benefit. The changes were all based upon the requests we had received from visitors to our site, many of whom also tend to frequent one or more of the international DVD forums.

Best wishes,

Mark.

Latest Database Update...

The latest database update has just taken place overnight and has picked up a whole bunch of new pre-order titles that have been added to Amazon's catalogue recently.

Notable titles include...

Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.
The 6th Day.
Fierce Creatures.
The Untouchables.

You can bring up a list of all the titles that have newly appeared in the latest update with this link...

http://j4fcgi.ipfox.com/just4fun.ama...ATE&sort=PRICE

We've also tweaked one minor thing - many people contacted us to ask if we could make a given set of search results re-sortable by a different column (price, title, actors, date etc...) which in fact always was possible.

All you have to do is click on the column title of the field you want to sort results by and the results will be resorted. To provide a more visual cue of this, the currently selected sort column now has its heading highlighted to make things clear.

Also, we've been asked several times by a number of different people about adding a 'percent off' field to the system much like that mentioned in another post here recently by 'Kosh'. We looked into it but have chosen not to attempt to implement such a feature at this time because a significant percentage of the DVD titles listed at Amazon.co.uk do not list all the three (RRP, Amazon Price, You Save...) items necessary to make this a really useful feature. When we evaluated a trial many of the most popular titles on Amazon failed to list because of this inconsistency. Thus, apologies to all those that contacted us but we hope you understand why we aren't pursuing this particular option right now.

Anyway, best wishes and have fun.

Mark.

Service Upgrade...

We've upgraded the service again by removing a constrain on our data import mechanism. Previously, DVDs without complete title/actor-actress fields were omitted from out import database but since just under 50% of Amazon.co.uk's current 4203 DVD titles are not completely specified we had a database with only around 2,500 items in.

We've now run our weekly update on the upgraded service and there are now around 4200 titles in our database too. Thus, for the most complete listing of Amazon.co.uk's catalogue with the ability to list by price, resort on any given field and so on we think the new service meets the aims.

For a look at this week's new additions, which includes all the previously omitted titles, visit here...

Oh, and "no, we don't know why Amazon have included the Jerk CD single in the DVD database!"

Best wishes,

Mark.
