I actually have been considering buying one of these. Question is can you only watch video if you are in WiFi? I heard even if you have 4G it won't stream video to a phone or tablet.

Don't have an iPad? No problem! We support watching your TV on your smartphone and other tablets as well. With any SlingPlayer, you can enjoy live or recorded TV over 3G, 4G or Wi-Fi. Flip through channels with the virtual remote control. Pause, fast forward, rewind and even schedule DVR recordings. Never miss another show or game -- whether you're in the backyard, out to lunch or on the other side of the world.
•Watch your channel lineup, live.
•Navigate your program guide and DVR.
•Remotely control your programming in real time.
•Watch recorded shows on your DVR.
•Set up one-click shortcuts to your favorite channels.
•Take advantage of the high-resolution display on your tablet.
*SlingPlayer for mobile devices is available at an additional cost in the Apple iTunes App Store, Google Play, Windows Marketplace (Phone) and the Amazon.com appstore (Kindle Fire).

will it work over the internet or only in your home network?
would be nice if you can watch your dvr when on vacation.

TGM, do you run your cable box thru a receiver (via HDMI) by chance?

I might have to give Slingbox another try. When I had Wowway cable (a smaller competitor to Comcast in the Midwest) I couldn't get the Slingbox HD to work for the life of me. Now that I have Xfinity I figure there would be no compatibility issues.

the Slingbox 350 doesn't have an HDMI output... so my satellite box is attached to my receiver via HDMI, and the Slingbox is attached to my satellite box via RGB and audio cables. The signal is evidently pushed simultaneously down HDMI or the RGB, which is nice.
You can watch your Slingbox on the computer for free, but would have to pay $15 to download the slingbox app for ipad/iphone or android to watch content on those devices.

Ahh... so you don't pass the cable box thru your Slingbox then thru the receiver... you run the Slingbox in parallel with the cable box as an add-on.

The satellite box outputs its signal via HDMI to my receiver, and thus thru my surround sound system. It also simultaneously outputs its signal directly to the Slingbox via RGB and UV cables. It is also connected to my home network. (I think the Slingbox 500 has an HDMI input but I can't see why you would really need considering what you are usually outputting the signal to).
At any rate, it's slick as hell. It would be a necessity if you traveled a lot for work.

^^ Awesome. Thanks for the lesson. I'll definitely add this to my Wish List and see if the wife picks up on it.
