Yeah it messed up my location recently as well. The same town name, but in a different state. Weird.

Re: MoviePass Beta Invite (Unlimited Movies in Theater)

Did you guys see the email / survey how they're trying to integrate MoviePass with theater rewards programs. Pretty cool.

I still have not figured out why theaters have not officially partnered with MoviePass. Maybe they're worried it will strain their relationship with Fandango? Otherwise, seems like a pure win for them to advertise the app / service.

No way. Please don't integrate MP with theater rewards program!

To anyone that has a Landmark theater around them - does your MoviePass work there? It's one of the only theaters around me where it doesn't accept.

They probably don't accept Discover Card, right? Your MoviePass is just a prepaid Discover card. So any theater that doesn't accept Discover won't accept MoviePass.

Same here, and yeah it's probably because of the Discover thing. Sucks because that's the last main theater I want.

Re: MoviePass Beta Invite (Unlimited Movies in Theater)

I just tried to open my app, and it is prompting me to renew my account. I went to the website, and it shows my account as canceled. About to start an online chat with them. I'm still within my first year, and in the middle of a month. I didn't cancel it, so I'm not sure what is going on.

EDIT: It appears I was canceled due to over-use of the card. She wasn't sure. The support rep referred me to contact somebody else on Monday.

Over-use? Is that even possible? I mean, you can only check into each movie one time. So, even if you are checking into every movie possible, that would still be within the rules. Please let us know what they say.

Re: MoviePass Beta Invite (Unlimited Movies in Theater)

On bad months I see 2 or 3 a month, break even (plus bonus for loyalty program.).
On a good week I may see up to 2 or 3 a week.

Something has changed:
Maybe they got more details on the specific theatre, but the last two movies I've bought tickets for, the MP went through for 1 cent more than the exact regular adult ticket price. They used to go through for 13. (Regular movie is 10.50 for me).

And I'm quite fine with loyalty plan being separate. The paranoid in me wonders if they did this survey so they can see how many are cheating, because technically I think it says (or did say) that loyalty cards were not allowed to be used with MP.

I think it says they are eligible now, since all it is (the Moviepass) is a card.

Re: MoviePass Beta Invite (Unlimited Movies in Theater)

They wouldn't give me specific examples, but they said it was "card abuse." However, I'm sure I know what it was. I did cheat the system several times. I would check-in for evening 2D shows, then buy the matinee 3D show paying entirely with the card (ie, I didn't pay for the 3D part myself). This usually resulted in a $1 higher ticket than the 2D evening show would have been, so I'm sure that's how I got caught.

To be honest, I'm relieved. I have been going to WAAAAAY too many movies this year, more than I normally would have if I didn't have the card. So to get out of my contract early is a blessing in disguise. Although I did kinda get gypped on August, but I still got my money's worth. Overall, I have no complaints.

I used to do that, so I guess pay the $1 first with the checkcard THEN have them run the MoviePass card, thanks

I always just tell them to charge xxx to the moviepass card, and then I pay the balance (cash or another card) ... so far no issues at all ..

You haven't run into Vegas theaters competency, have you They'll tell you they'll separate them and then put it all in one card. Easy for them to fix up mistakes in my checkcard (or even possible at all).

Seriously. Please don't integrate them. It will water down the rewards program. I am currently enjoying my massive Stubbs rewards.

Anyone know if MoviePass automatically renews? Coming up on a year.

no doubt - I can't stand I can't use the card at either E St. or Bethesda - it makes me go out to the Angelika Mosaic where I CAN use the card.

The best use of MoviePass is that the AFI Silver takes it ...

Re: MoviePass Beta Invite (Unlimited Movies in Theater)

So what's the best way to use your card towards a 3D movie? I tried today to have them just put $10 on the card and she said it wouldn't go through. I hadn't checked into a movie since it was 3D, was that my problem or do others try to just pay $10 off and then put the rest on another card?

You hadn't checked into anything? You have to check into something or there won't be any money on the card. Check into anything that qualifies and then buy the ticket for what you want to see, and then ask them to charge the price of a regular movie to the MoviePass

Re: MoviePass Beta Invite (Unlimited Movies in Theater)

I check in for something, then have them scan the MP and say "this will go through for part of it", then pay the rest out of pocket.

Although I'm wondering if the extra .01 is a security check on that. No one charges 10.01 for a movie, so if MP activates the card for xx.01, then every time that card gets a charge of .01 is a technically non-qualifying purchase.

Re: MoviePass Beta Invite (Unlimited Movies in Theater)

I thought you always had to tell them how much to charge if you wanted to do a partial purchase. I always thought that if you had a card with 10 dollars on it, and they try to authorize it for, say, 13, it wouldn't authorize the 10, it would just reject it.

Re: MoviePass Beta Invite (Unlimited Movies in Theater)

I haven't had to. Of course one time the guy thought it was a gift card that now had 0 on it, and he said "I'll throw this away for you." "NO! I mean, er, no thanks."
Maybe it depends on the theatre or their billing system.
