Just what the subject title says: iTunes has all ten season premiere episodes of Smallville free this week. You can download them in HD if you wish, or save some hard drive space and just download the SD versions. I've never seen a single episode, so I'm all over ten free HD episodes.

I find this interesting as the Complete Series isn't going to get a Blu-ray version. The reason they stated is there are no HD masters and would need too much restoration to be able to do that.. but now.. every Premiere episode is free in HD from iTunes.. that means there are more in HD than just the S5/S6 in HD-DVD and S6-S10 in Blu... hmmmm

If we've never watched the show before, is just watching these episodes enough to know about the entire series?

I can't answer that, as I've never seen the show before. I would guess that the concern is less about whether you can fill in the gaps as you go, and more about how each episode may spoil entire seasons.

trust me.. watching 10 premiers will be dissapointing... especially as the premiers for S2-S10 are the second half of a story arc that left on a cliff hanger the previous season... I think if they wanted to drum up interest in the show.. they should have included the pilot of S1 and then the last episodes of S1-S9... this way.. everyone who didn't see the show would at least want to buy the next episode..

Pure lies by Warner's marketing department, to justify the fact they do not think they will make enough money on a Blu-ray set. Every episode of Smallville has been recently shown in real HD for syndication on HDNet and look fine, even the older ones.
