Best Buy. Gateway Laptop Core I3 with bluray drive 499

I have been following SD (you all know the site) since this hit 2 days ago.

Best buy has a Core I3 with a bluray drive for 499.

Confirmed Gateway model NV5927U Gateway
Price $499.99
SKU 9721671

* Intel® Core™ i3-330M processor (all have confirmed I5-430m cpu)
* 4GB DDR3 memory
* Blu-ray Disc-enabled DVD±RW/CD-RW drive
* 15.6" LED-backlit high-definition widescreen display (1366x768)
* 320GB Serial ATA hard drive (5400 rpm)
* Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator HD (128MB of dedicated video memory)
* HDMI port for connection to an HDTV.
* Built-in webcam and microphone
* Multi-in-1 digital media reader (Supports SD, MMC, MS, MS PRO and xD-Picture Card formats)
* 4 high-speed USB 2.0 ports
* Built-in wireless LAN (802.11b/g/n)
* Built-in 10/100/1000 Gigabit Ethernet LAN
* Weighs 5.8 lbs. and measures just 1.5" thin
* Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium Edition 64-bit operating system preinstalled
Now according to the people on SD Gateway messed up and put an I5 in the black ones with this sku which bumps the price quite a bit. Throw in the Bluray drive and this is an amazing deal. I think this only runs until sunday from what I understand. I have mine here but have not opened it yet. 533 out the door for an amazing laptop. Everyone who has opened their so far is confirming it is an I5.

Pick them up if you can, no one has said one thing bad about this computer yet.

Thanks to Scubasteve from SD for posting there

Well the model that is coming in these boxes with the I5 in them sells for 749 on gateways website. It is identical except for the I5 processor. so that's 250 off right there.

it won't be on the website until possibly sunday. The blue and red ones are on there, but not the black which could be the only one with the I5 in it.

The gateway link in the post I quoted takes you to the laptop on their website.

http://www.gateway.com/systems/product/529668372.php

that is more or less what people are getting in the box... exact same specs except for the I5 processor

Oh and the 749 one doesn't have a bluray drive.. so add that and this laptop is worth well over 800+ dollars

The screen resolution (or lack thereof) appears to be an issue.

I'd be interested in knowing the battery life as well.

Its a brand new laptop that doesn't come out actually until sunday. Best buy is just selling it early. You may not find any reviews on it yet, but for 500 bucks it really is a no brainer, at least for me.

People on SD are saying the picture is amazing, and with an HDMI out port if you wanted a bluray player and a laptop this is score.

If it helps, here are the specs from the box

Should have an I5 in it though as I said

I'm looking to stream HD to my living room setup. This may do it if it's really that nice - and well built. I'll have to drop by tomorrow and check it out.

if you have an hdmi port on your tv, no need to stream (if you meant wireless) just plug it in and there you go :P

The thread at SD is just about 100 pages long!

I bought a pretty decent laptop about a month ago for $400, but I would gladly have gotten this one instead! Oh well.

The best way is to go in and give them the sku to look it up with.

If your best buy won't sell it until sunday then go to another one. They aren't supposed to be sold until then but most of the best buys have no clue.

Hmm... not very good, it even has LED backlighting and only that much battery life. I wonder if it has a larger battery available.

I picked one up just in case I decide I want it. I'm keeping it sealed for now but I looked at the demo units that had somewhat different specs. The key size was too big and I didn't like the feel of the keys for the short time I tried them out, but the layout may work for me. The sound was pretty good.

The screen didn't seem to be too reflective, which I like, but I didn't get to see a Windows desktop on it yet, just demo screens. I read that its HDMI puts out 1080p which is good. I'm assuming sound goes out HDMI as well. Being able to use it as a portable Blu-ray player is a real plus.

Does it have an expansion slot? I really like to add Firewire for backups and connecting other peripherals.

I haven't opened mine either, unlike a lot of people here I can't usually afford 500 bucks on a whim lol.. I am holding onto it for a little while to see if i can truly afford it before opening it.

Someone on SD ran the crucial memory tester on it and it told them there were 4 total ram slots with 2 used, so that is good, at least you can upgrade the ram fairly cheap without going the way of 400 dollar high density ram.

I'm glad you were able to get one, at least i helped one person :P

Though it's a little iffy I like the fact that it has a multi-gesture touch pad for pinch and zoom type features.

You can add me to the list. I just picked up one over lunchtime from work. I went in and gave the salesguy the SKU. There weren't any out on display or in their "under the display" stock. It took him a few minutes to locate it in their back storage but he came out with one. At first he was surprised when I told him what I was looking for and that it had a Blu-Ray drive for that price!

I appreciate the heads-up on this deal. I was hoping to find a great deal on a laptop and the Blu-Ray and i5 are nice added bonuses!!

Add me to the list too. I picked one up during lunchtime. The sales person I spoke with was aware of the i3 vs i5 issue and stated I was getting a great deal. Thanks OP.

No, they actually don't go on sale until tomorrow, but they are already ringing up at 499 if your best buy will sell it to you.

They are selling extremely quick to resellers and such who are buying upwards of 10 at a time. Get one now if you can. I doubt there will be many left by sunday.

This is like a black friday deal that you can get before black friday. They will have a few at each store on sunday when they go on sale, but expect them to go very very quick as the ad has it listed as 499. Once that circulates sunday it's all over.

Thanks for posting this, glassdragon!

To those looking to purchase, neither the name nor SKU yielded results at the store, but they actually did have the boxes staked up along the back shelves. So, if you get shot down, have a look on the shelves for a thin white Gateway box with the name on it. After pointing it out to the salesman, he grabbed one and it rang up just fine.

Picked one up about 30 minutes ago, thanks for posting this, OP. I visit Slickdeals often but hadn't seen this deal listed there at all. Not 100% sure if I'll keep it yet, but I figured I'd rather buy it and return it unopened than not buy it and be mad later.
