Was surprised to see this book for $1 at Dollar Tree today. The book goes into detail about the relationship between Balco, Victor Conte and many professional athletes who used illegal products to enhance their performance.

I go to Dollar Tree about once a week to see what they get. I've gotten the following books for $1:

Game of Shadows (no dust jacket, but I wasn't going to complain).
The Missing Ring: How Bear Bryant and the 1966 Alabama Crimson Tide were denied College Football's most elusive prize by Keith Dunnawant.
The Last Season: A team in search of it's soul by Phil Jackson.
The Truth: with jokes by Al Franken.
America: Back on Track by Senator Edward M. Kennedy.
Justice for All: Earl Warren and the Nation he made by Jim Newton.
Now I can Die in Peace: How ESPN's Sports Guy found Salvation, with a little help from Nomar, Pedro, Shawshank and the 2004 Red Sox by Bill Simmons.
Dropping the Ball: Baseball's Troubles and how we can and must solve them by Dave Winfield with Michael Levin.
F5: Devastation, Survivial and the most violent tornado outbreak of the twentieth century by Mark Levine.

^ I saw the Bill Simmons book at Big Lots recently - think it was $3 there.

I'll have to keep an eye out for Game of Shadows. I read nearly any baseball-related book. I picked up John Schuerholz's book there a few months back. It was a good read.

Got a book by Jayson Starks about underrated and overrated baseball players. Saw a similar one by Sal Palantonio and football players and a coaching kids book by Cal Ripken.

Thanks to this thread, found a couple great $1 finds, including the Simmons and a Baseball Prospectus book (It Ain't Over 'Til It's Over: The Baseball Prospectus Pennant Race Book).

Not bad... 2 hardcovers with a combine MSRP of ~$50 for $2.

Supermob: How Sidney Korshak and his criminal associates became America's hidden power brokers by Gus Russo. Amazon has this listed for $52 and up for a used hardcover. Yowsers!

Middle Passages: African American Journeys to Africa, 1787-2005 by James T. Campbell.

Kate Remembered by A. Scott Berg (Katherine Hepburn).

Not counting the Supermob book, since it's Amazon price is extreme, I bought 6 books for $6 that would have cost me at least $62 at Amazon. Some of the prices were for the paperback, not hardcover, so the money spent would have been even more!

Found ESPN 25: 25 Mind-Bending, Eye-Popping, Culture Morphing Years of Highlights (Hardcover) today at Dollar Tree. The cool thing about the book is that it includes a DVD with over 30 Sportcenter commercials.

Just came back from Dollar Tree and they had Money Shot by Christa Faust.

I'd never read any of the Hard Case Crime books, but had heard good things. I figure for $1, I'd it a try.

They also had one of Ted Kennedy's books, for the mourners out there.

I was hoping to pick up the ESPN book (just for the DVD, to get those absolutely classic commercials), but no dice.

Free Byrd - The Paul Byrd Story by Paul Byrd

Apparently it's heavily christian based but apparently it's also the first autobiography written by an active MLB player written without a ghost writer. Should be a fun read.

Money Shot was a good read. It's the only hard case crime book I've read.
