What is your definition of a brand new and sealed CD?

Cut-out CDs are brand new and most of them are factory sealed. So far I haven't received one CD from discoramaoverstock that wasn't sealed, and that includes cut-out and import CDs in prices ranging from .79 cents to $15.89.

Top spine sticker. That means the CD was not touched. Anything without top-spine sticker, I'd have my doubts. And I'm not going to pay 9 dollars for a cut-out CD, that's my second argument.

I guess you're referring to the top wrap-around label sticker found on most retail store CDs in the USA. But these stickers are not usually found on "brand new" import, cut-out, promotional or music club (BMG and Yourmusic) CDs.These stickers are usually nothing more than informational labels in order to make it easier to read what each CD is from the top without having to flip through them at your local retail store.

If you feel more comfortable paying retail and/or list prices for your music CDs, then so be it. But for my money, I would rather purchase "brand new factory sealed" cut-out CDs for a lot less money than retail prices.

I've also never understood why a small punch or slice upsets people so badly, especially when accompanied by a substantial savings. I have noticed that there are some people on the internet that are REALLY upset by it though. I never ran into that attitude before the internet.

DR does have a few used cd's, but the ones I saw were clearly noted as such in the description. I just did a larger order, I'll let you know if their are any problems, but i don't expect any.

I also know people who refuse to join music clubs like Yourmusic because they feel the CDs from music clubs are of lesser quality. These same people would rather pay $10.99 for a CD at Best Buy instead of paying just $6.99 for the exact same CD from Yourmusic.

As far as cut-out CDs are concerned if people feel the small cut in the jewel case is a problem, then just replace the jewel case. I mean where else can you find brand new CDs for only $0.79 cents???

Re: One & Only Yourmusic.com Thread I (BMG R.I.P.)

It's not just a small cut in the jewel case, the hole punches through the UPC and I can see the CD through the hole. Or the cardboard sleeve is cut out.

I'm a member of yourmusic.com and I was a member of BMG Music. I had some problems but I can say that I have built most of my collection through them.

Why are we so upset? Because the worth of cut-out CD's are pennies. They have no intrinsic value. If I got them for 0.79, I wouldn't even bother to post here. Anyways, evidently people in Discorama don't like to reply to e-mails. Let me see if I can return them after all.

I ordered the latest Pet Shop Boys CD,Yes from discoramaoverstock. It is the 2 disc version.Disco..mentions that it is the Japanese release(which features a Japan only bonus track).
I received mine.It is NOT the Japanese import. But for only 10 bucks,I really did not expect it to be.

When I'm listening to my music collection my ears can't tell the difference between a CD that was purchased from Best Buy or from BMG Music or a worthless 0.79 cents cut-out CD from Discorama. They all sound the same to me!

If you're so upset about your order why are you waiting for a reply to your e-mails, just call their customer service department at 1-212-477-9410.

Re: One & Only Yourmusic.com Thread I (BMG R.I.P.)

Intrinsic value? Used CD stores must think so, since they will buy cut-outs for re-sell -- and charge the same as for the CDs-bought-at-full-price they re-sell.

Thanks to the OP - I hadn't run across Discorama before. Picked up the Bowie and a couple of other items. Bowie was brand new (with top spine sticker), the $2.99 CD was a cut-out and they only sent 1 copy (of 2 I ordered and was charged for) of the DVD. I emailed them of the error and asked them to correct the oversight. 8 out of 10 (rating upgraded after I received the 2nd DVD) and I plan to order more from them.

UPDATE:The missing DVD arrived on 10/27. The best response came from hitting "Reply" to the original shipping acknowlegment email. (I also tried customer service, but STILL have not heard back from them.)

If you purchased 2 CDs in October, your free CD should be available on your account now.

Why, exactly, do they keep coming up with obviously worse deals right after another deal ends? Last month was buy 2 get 1, this month you need to buy 3 *and* wait a whole extra month to get the free one.

That said... free CDs are free CDs if you're ordering anyways to pick up holiday presents.

and for anyone who likes Jazz, the latest from Joe Lovano - Folk Art - is now available and it is excellent.

Does your normal "1 CD per month" obligation count towards the three (so, "buy two more")? Or is it buying three independent of your membership obligations?

I'd think since you're paying for it, that it would. I don't know since I'm not required to buy 1 per month.

Ok, I panicked when I saw the obligation and cancelled my account. I didn't think I had to buy 1 per month. How do you know for sure?

Re: One & Only Yourmusic.com Thread I (BMG R.I.P.)

I think the only way you DON'T have to buy one per month is if you signed up as a former BMG member. I signed up one of my BMG accounts and I don't have the option of creating a cd queue.

I would guess that if you are obligated to buy one each month that it will not count toward the "get one free" deals. They used to have a points type system where you would get one free after you bought 10 and the monthly queue shipment did not count toward that. They also used to have "buy 2, get 1 free" codes that only worked with additional orders.

Re: One & Only Yourmusic.com Thread I (BMG R.I.P.)

Is that banner (above) something that shows up on your page when you log-in? Or an email? I'm tempted to do it (I have three I would buy), but want to make sure it will apply to my account as well. Thanks for any info.

Edit: I found it in my email. Mine is B2G1 (though I have the monthly obligation).

Details:
If you purchase two separate items in your CART (with separate selection numbers) during the month of November, you may choose one single CD free of charge starting in the month of January 2010. A scheduled queue purchase cannot be counted as a qualifying item. A double-CD set or boxed set with a single selection number will be considered one qualifying item; the item to be redeemed free of charge must be a single CD.

Thanks for pointing that out. Maybe I'll use up my free disc from October.

My other option would be the remaster of Getz/Gilberto. I feel my collection is a bit incomplete without it, even though I'm not a big bossa nova fan. One of 'those' albums.

It's hard to get some of those Verve re-releases though since they're lacking bonus tracks that were on previous versions. For example, McCoy Tyner 'Today and Tomorrow' was just added to YourMusic. It has only the original 6 tracks, and the 9 track version from a few years ago can easily be found on ebay. Though sometimes the extra tracks were filler on the previous releases that can be obtained elsewhere, so it's a bit tough to sort out if the new release is truly lacking. For example, the latest round of Coltrane re-releases dropped tracks, but they came from albums that are now getting full remastered releases.
Perhaps a better example, there are actually 2 versions of Gerry Mulligan / Paul Desmond Quartet listed on the site, one release given the title 'Blues in Time' the other just called 'Quartet'. I don't know the technical specs, they could actually be the same remaster version of the base 7 tracks. I have the earlier 11 track release and it sounds fine. (ps -anyone who needs a jazz recommendation, this album is very very cool.)
