Here's what I do to avoid that problem. Don't post here that you took a code until you redeem it first. Simple.

Highlight/copy a code from the list. In Itunes Store, click on "Redeem" on the right side. Paste the code into the box and click the "Redeem" button. Enter your password and click the "check" button. This confirms that the song is downloading. Then I come back to this thread, post a reply and paste the code into my reply. Done.
