If you need one with night shooting you need a sony, stay away from the JVC night alive feature, it sucks. I have been using a jvc for about 2 or 3 years and mine finally died. I bought the new jvc 244 from walmart.com for $198 and it is better than my old one. I don't use the camcorder for effects and so on, I use the computer for all that. I'm not sure how much $100-200 extra will get you but I know the JVC 250 at walmart is almost $300 and the only extra features is 25x optical instead of 22x optical zoom.
