I may just have to make this my first 4k movie, even though I don't have a UHD player yet.

At this point why even make standard DVD SKUs anymore? Just make people buy the BD combo if they want a DVD.

That steelbook with Baby Groot on it is cute. I'll likely buy the normal UHD release, don't care about all these other editions.

Re: Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 - BR / UHD (yes UHD) Aug. 22

1. Disney was waiting for Dolby Vision before they pushed out titles on UltraHD. With Lionsgate (Power Rangers) and Universal (Despicable Me 1 & 2, The Fate of the Furious) releasing titles with Dolby Vision over the past few weeks, it was just a matter of time.

2. Rumor is we're going to see a slew of Disney UltraHD titles be announced at D23 this weekend.

With that being said, I'm hoping Microsoft pushes out a firmware update for Dolby Vision on the Xbox One S (and soon to be Xbox One X) as they have for Blu-ray 3D and Dolby Atmos in the past.

Re: Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 - BR / UHD (yes UHD) Aug. 22

I guess the Best Buy exclusive will be my first 4K purchase then since I have to have the 3D even if their BD Steelbook is as cool as the first one. Hopefully this one will also be a Steelbook.

Anyone care to speculate if the price goes down? I haven't been paying attention to the BB 4K exclusives. I just ordered it at $34.99 and it took $1 off for choosing store pickup, which is better than $3.99 to ship since it's a penny short of free shipping.

It looks like Best Buy is using the same cover art for their steelbook.

I'm thinking it's going to stay around that $35 price since it includes 4K+3D+Blu Ray+Digital. The Marvel 3D steelbooks have been going for $30 lately, so an extra $5 to include the 4K version seems reasonable.

I can probably live with $35...especially considering what happened to me on the first one (I missed out on the original sale and spent roughly a year trying to snag it at a reasonable price which I eventually did). The cover art is cute, though I was selfishly hoping for something similar to the cassette tape. Still, good times, good times.

I'll happily pay $35 for 3D/4K bundles if that means more studios will do this.

Really looking forward to this. When I saw this in the theater I thought to myself how good this would look on an 4K HDR TV.

$35 is definitely more than I usually spend for a title, but I want both the 3D and 4k. Needless to say, my order has been placed.

Best Buy has a similar deal with Kong Skull Island for next week. Steelbook that includes 4K+3D+Blu Ray+Digital. I'm just hoping the price drops a little bit before my order is ready for pick up. Currently it's at $40.

Sony was doing it for awhile (Ghostbusters, Angry Birds, Passengers, etc.) but it looks like they pulled the plug.

Happy for you guys that want 4K/3D bundles, I just hope studios don't make that the only 4K option down the line in an effort to boost whatever profit.

I don't see that being the case. So far they seem to be Best Buy exclusives. I'm fine if they continue doing it that way. That way there are plenty of different buying options and it keeps everyone happy.

Looks like I'll be skipping my first Best Buy Marvel steelbook, as I'm not interested in 4k but am interested in 3D. Oh well, It was a good run while it lasted.

Zavvi briefly had a 3D/Blu-ray SteelBook, but it sold out in a blink.

Re: Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 - BR / UHD (yes UHD) Aug. 22

UPDATE 7/12/17: Some fantastic news, folks, but not necessarily the news we were hoping for.

Guardians Vol.2 will 100% be available in 4K UHD with HDR in BOTH Dolby Vision & Dolby Atmos, BUT that dual Dolby combo is only going to featured on the DIGITAL RELEASE via Disney Movies Anywhere (and their partners), and it will likely be retailer-dependent. This UHD version will be available August 8 and, per Disney, will also be available in HDR10 (not sure if its dual-HDR format or if you have to pick one based on the retailer).

The 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray will be available as part of the Cinematic Universe 4K UHD Combo Pack (4K UHD with HDR, Blu-ray, Digital Copy) as well as the 4K/3D Best Buy Exclusive Combo Pack and the 4K Target Exclusive Combo Pack (no 3D). These 4K Blu-rays also feature Dolby Atmos, but ONLY HDR10 -- NOT Dolby Vision.

FYI, it is unclear as to whether the 4K UHD Blu-ray's Digital HD copy include access to the 4K UHD Digital release with Dolby Vision OR if that will only be available as a separate purchase. We'll let you know as soon as we get our review copy in and can verify the process.

Blu-ray Bonus Materials include (but may vary by retailer):

The Making of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2 four-party behind-the-scenes documentary.

Visionary Intro with director James Gunn

Guardians Inferno Music Video with David Hasselhoff

Four Deleted Scenes

Audio Commentary with director James Gunn

The Digital HD bonus materials include all of the above PLUS

Three Scene Breakdowns

Eclector Escape
Gamora and Nebula
Rocket and Ravagers

Guardians of the Galaxy - Mission: Breakout! sneak peak at the new Disneyland ride (formerly The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror).

I'm confused, why would they make Dolby Vision or Atmos based on retailer release, let alone Dolby Vision or HDR 10? That seems to make no sense.

Re: Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 - BR / UHD (yes UHD) Aug. 22

Sounds like only the digital copy will have Dolby Vision, not the disc. As it's only 2D anyways I still don't care but would be interested to at least see Dolby Vision on a disc- my player supports it but my receiver might not, it's supposed to get an update later this year according to the company. I got the free short films on Vudu which are in Dolby Vision, but my TV can't pass Dolby Atmos from it even using ARC.

Re: Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 - BR / UHD (yes UHD) Aug. 22

Dolby Vision is on the UHD disc.

Bill Hunt confirmed it and it would make zero sense for Disney to not include Dolby Vision since that was their major reason for not putting titles out on the format in the first place.

The titles in general release that included 4k and 3D have not been priced higher and have had various sales. I bought two of those releases for $15. Not bad at all for a UHD. The prices for this one and Kong are higher because they're steelbooks and store exclusives. I see that becoming more of a direction for 3D, but I don't see it for UHD.

Meanwhile, sources at Dolby contradict this and state that the UHD Blu-ray will only have HDR10.
