What Special Editions Are We Still Missing?
After almost twenty years of DVD and Blu-ray what high-profile films are still in need of the special edition treatment?
Off the top of my head:
48 HRS.
Lethal Weapon series
Outland

- Idiocracy
- Cheech and Chong
- Beavis and Butthead
(ie. Original B&B episodes with all the rock videos being mocked, Beavis yelling "Fire! Fire! Fire!", etc ....)

Speaking of Mike Judge, his original Special Edition of "Office Space" (on DVD and Blu-ray) was apparently chopped to bits, and most of the planned and/or completed special features never made it to disc.

The obvious long rumored but still absent versions of True Lies and the Abyss.
Also, I just bought Scrooged on Blu and apparently the special features for that were completed a decade ago but never have made an appearance.

Extras?? You should know by now that most in this forum gives a crap about extras?
I am glad that a company like Shout continues to put out quality special edition BD releases throughout the year even though they are priced a little high.
I personally think the original Under Siege deserved a special edition. I'm sure you could get Seagal, Tommy Lee Jones and Andrew Davis to talk about it now. Puzzled why it's been barebones and WB didn't do crap when the 20th anniversary passed. But, they did so a SE for The Fugitive.

I thought the recent release of the Lethal Weapon series was satisfactory.
I would add the Mad Max series, but I believe that is coming soon.
Personally what I would like to see done well on BD is a lot of the live action Dinsey stuff that wasn't even done well on DVD. George of the Jungle, The Three Musketeers, Mighty Joe Young, etc.

Plus, all 4 movies had commentary tracks from Richard Donner. I believe only Part 4 had a commentary in the previous individual releases. And the previous releases were mostly barebones.
The only major thing that was missing IMO was the "Directors Cuts" of Parts 1-3 from the DVD release. However, if I'm not mistaken, those were never officially sanctioned by Donner. They were just deleted scenes re-inserted by the studio.
and skimming though the extras list right now, I see a lot of small extras were included like Music Videos, deleted scenes, short EPK featurettes were included with each individual film.

I had an early French Blu-ray of this and it had some raised pitch issues in the audio - everyone sounded like they took a small hit of helium.
I have the German Blu-ray and it doesn't have the same problem. It's also way cheaper according to Blu-ray.com - currently 5 euros before shipping on Amazon DE. It is region locked.

Many movie franchises, and even TV series, are handled that way. Been that way since the early DVD sets. Incentive to buy the box set.

I'm still surprised that Quiz Show hasn't gotten any kind of special treatment. It is on BD, but it's an import with no extras. It seems that there would be a lot of potential for additional material, what with the history of the scandals.
While they probably wouldn't get any participation from Charles Van Doren, Herbert Stempel has been open about it. I think he might even be willing to do a commentary if he's still able.

I'm still wondering about the Pink Panther franchise. Pretty high profile for no BD release whatsoever. With one film owned by Lionsgate it would be a negotiated box set, if ever.
Then there's Night of The Living Dead and Dawn of The Dead.

I really dig Quiz Show. I remember my buddy and I went to see and there were only two other people in the theater, parents of another kid in our class (we were freshmen, I think). That's the only year I can spout off all five Best Picture nominees from my lifetime because I saw them all before the Oscars that year and liked them all, too: Quiz Show, Forrest Gump, Pulp Fiction, Four Weddings and a Funeral (although this is the one I haven't watched since, I can't remember it at all), and The Shawshank Redemption.

The HK John Woo movies still need to be done right. I've never owned any of them given how poor all the home video treatments have been.

have U.S. Ultimate Edition BD releases by the now defunct Dragon Dynasty.
They're both very affordable. Under $15
Both have a decent amount of extras.
However, Blu-Ray.com's reviews criticized the video quality as not being very good. But, both got recommendations.
If you're not looking to spend an arm and a leg, these aren't bad to pick up.

I was looking through which great movies I have with shitty DVD's and I came across Freeway. I'm not
sure how many other fans there are out there, but I would love to see that done well on BD.

Has Disney's The Black Hole ever been rumored for a Bluray upgrade?
I'd love to see some features on the FX, and an isolated score would awesome.
Dune could use a hi-def re-do. Add in all the footage of the TV cut, plus any other footage still not included.
I just skimmed over the rest of my collection and even my wishlist on Aficiondao and nothing else really jumped out at me. The only thing that could be announced that would truly make me shout for joy would be that certain trilogy of movies whose names I won't say because I don't want to derail this thread. Those three movies in their original forms, with vintage making-of materials would be the only thing I'm well and truly waiting for.
