The steelbook will be $19.99 next week at Best Buy. So if you placed an order last week when they were doing the $5 reward cert, you are getting a pretty good deal.

It's a Best Buy exclusive.

I'm getting cold feet with my $49.99 Amazon collector's edition. Can get 4k and 3D separate for maybe $1 more.

That edition also screams BF sale, especially since it's an Amazon exclusive. I bet at minimum it will drop to $39.99 for the holidays, maybe even lower.

I got that Watchmen ship a couple years back for like $15 and it was originally around $75.

I never got the steel books for the previous films so I ended up buying the BD @ Target. Besides, I had a $10 coupon so I got it for $14 incl. tax.

Got the set in today. I actually forgot to cancel it, but fuck it. I now have it. Crap part is that the 3D disc is just tossed in the case in a slipcover. What an exclusive. And there's also that shitty little toy that comes with it.

Re: Star Trek Beyond - 11/1/16

I stopped by Target this morning to pick up their Star Trek exclusive and the new animated Batman steelbook. I picked up Batman but all the Star Trek blu-rays were jammed in the clear plastic security boxes that were just a tad too small and ended up warping (no pun intended) all the outer slip covers.

I held off on buying the Star Trek blu hoping that I can find a Target that doesn't have them jammed in the security box.

Yeah, I hate that shit. Target store exclusive packaging, only available at Target, and they jam it into a fucking security case and jack up the slipcover.

I went to Target today and all of the STB exclusives in the electronics department were in those. Fortunately I was able to find two copies that weren't in those things in a DVD/blu-ray rack up by the registers. You might want to check there.

Got mine at Target today and they had all of them in extra large security containers...

Re: Star Trek Beyond - 11/1/16

I picked up the 3-disc set from Target

One major drawback is the collectible cards need to be kept sealed otherwise the slip cover will no longer fit around the BD case.

I doubt the 3-disc set will be on sale Black Friday. I think the standard set will be the one likely to get any kind of discount.

I don't think I will bother unwrapping the cards. Is there anything on the backside of the cards?

Re: Star Trek Beyond - 11/1/16

Since I pre-ordered my Target version is being sent in the mail. Hopefully that means it could be in great shape and not damaged by a plastic jail. They also refunded the difference between the price when I ordered and the lower price on release week. For some reason they also cancelled the $5 gift card and just lowered the price by $5.

From what I could tell from an unboxing video, the backside of the cards are just more character photos. 4 cards with 8 images front and back?

I don't see why not. I grabbed the Target exclusive of the last movie for around $9 on BF a couple years ago.

Re: Star Trek Beyond - 11/1/16

I got my Target exclusive at lunch yesterday but I didn't open it until I got home and the case is broken. I can exchange today, but now I'm wondering if it being in one of those plastic cases would have protected it...

Re: Star Trek Beyond - 11/1/16

Target exclusives are regularly included in any sale prices for the standard version after enough time goes by. The trick is knowing which ones still be around, and which ones will be the exception and not be included.

If there are any left I would expect this Trek exclusive to be included. I'm keeping the receipt around for my copy so I can return it if the exclusive is cheaper on BF.

Re: Star Trek Beyond - 11/1/16

Was going through the set last night.

Paramount did something really strange with the Target bonus disc. They actually ported over all the extras from disc 1 into the bonus disc, which has the retailer exclusive extras. So you're getting some redundancy here.

I didn't open the cards because if you unwrap them, the BD case won't stay in the slip cover because of the tiny gap.

Very silly for Paramount to do this. They should have put the cards on the outside to not interfere with the slip cover.

Yes, the other major characters: Kirk/Scotty, Uhura/Chekov, Spock/Sulu and Bones/Jaylah. I currently have Jaylah as my front cover.

Re: Star Trek Beyond - 11/1/16

Used the "Mystery Reward Certificate" ($5) to pick up the steelbook for $14.99 today. Don't imagine they'll do anything with the steelbook on Black Friday although it will probably end up selling for $10 a year from now...

Re: Star Trek Beyond - 11/1/16

I went back to Target at lunch to exchange mine and they were sold out of the Blurays, I checked the front by the registers and the electronics department. There were a few DVD copies left, but this may be a good indicator for getting the 4th movie made if the Blu release does well.

Re: Star Trek Beyond - 11/1/16

The Target set is a neat package, but they should have made it a side-opening slipcase instead of a slipcover. There's nowhere to keep the cards, and they will fall out of the bottom when you take it off of a shelf.

Re: Star Trek Beyond - 11/1/16

My Target exclusive finally arrived and now I can tell you that the warping of the outer slip has nothing to do with those plastic jails. Apparently many just came out of the factory that way. Hopefully I can find a copy with at least less warping in the store.
