Are we sure $799 is the price and not a early misprice?

As few copies of these as they'll sell, they could probably arrange that.

I prefer them in a state of un-dress for that price.

Already have LotR extended and theatrical. The Hobbit was a bloated whale carcass, IMO.

As much as I like the movies, I've already got the extended editions in blu. I bet set that ends up being really nice though.

Re: Middle Earth Collection - 10/4/16

As stated, this set is probably going to be gorgeous. But I already own The three "Hobbit" 3D Extended Editions and the "Lord of the Rings" Extended Edition set. I'd have to be crazy to sell those off to acquire this set—but my lack of good judgment never ceases to amaze me! I don't consider any of the Hobbit films a "bloated whale carcass." I was totally engrossed when I recently watched all three in 3D over a number of nights and the extended editions only drew me in closer to the characters, story and world of middle earth. This new set is obviously for the die-hard fan and actually sounds similar to the "Harry Potter Hogwarts Collection" rather than the cumbersome "Wizards collection." I was able to snag that beautifully executed set about two years ago for $99. It has everything you could possibly want housed in a sturdy sleeve and compact photo album like binder. My only complaint is that unlike the "Bond 50" set and the "Sons of Anarchy" sets, there are not any images from the film as you flip the pages. And despite the claims by a few, I do not believe this packaging is prone to falling apart or causing scratches on the discs. I cherish my copies of the "Bond 50" and the "Sons of Anarchy" sets and none of the discs have magically developed any scratches. I am eagerly awaiting images of the set to be released but I am not likely to bite until it has been around for a couple of years. I waited on the "Batman Limited Edition", "Harry Potter Hogwarts Collection," "Sons of Anarchy" and the "Bond 50" sets and I ended up paying a fraction of what they originally cost when first released. My patience has paid off and I am willing to gamble that these sets will be around for a long time. Especially considering how many different versions of those films already exist both new and used.

I'd have to seriously consider whether or not I would even watch these films again if they paid ME $799 to do so.

Buying them for that much? Christ.
It would take a month to finish watching them assuming you watched parts of the movies every day.

For a monthly Challenge, I once watched every second of content on every LOTR release. Never again. I haven't even watched any of the Hobbit films.

All the DIs were 2K, so that might not have that much value.

That hasn't stopped about 90% of the films currently available on UHD.

Exactly. That's why I haven't become enamored with the new Blu-ray "Superbit" line. For me, the costs far outweigh the benefits. I simply cannot imagine enjoying these films more because of a minute visual or aural upgrade.

If you know: does that mean they're doing an upconversion, or is it simply a 4K encode of a 2K transfer?

For $800 it should also come with a 3D set up along with the 3D discs.

Re: Middle Earth Collection - 10/4/16

Wait... does this shit STILL include the BS DVDs of the extras for the LoTR films that for some reason they just didn't thrown into one BD for each respective film instead of all those fucking DVDS?

For $800 I want the cast to perform live... in my living room!

Re: Middle Earth Collection - 10/4/16

It does look nice, but I've never displayed my movies like that. I have a friend who has the three LOTR EE books displayed prominently on a knickknack shelf, and they look good, but I have mine on my movie shelf.

The 2k movies that have been released on UHD so far have all been upconverted to 4k and been re-graded for High Dynamic Range. The HDR is the real selling point of the format, much more so than the extra pixels.
