Chopping Mall (1986) coming to Blu-Ray - 9/27/16
Director Jim Wynorski posted this on his FB page:
I can't post the artwork as yet, but a deal has been struck to release CHOPPING MALL on BluRay through Lionsgate as soon as late summer. Their art dept. did an amazing job on the front and back covers and the disc will be chock full of extras, both old and new. I'm so happy that the film will finally be getting the restoration it needed; and that the fans deserve. And get this....they're already searching thru their vaults for more 80s titles to give the BluRay treatment. Thank you all for your encouragement and best wishes - banging my head against a wall for the last two years finally paid off.

Ridiculously excited about this one. I rented this on VHS more times than I could count, and that's basically what I got with the lackluster DVD.

YES YES YES YES YES
We were OBSESSED with Chopping Mall in high school. I have it on DVD (one of those 8-in-1 packages or something) and I can't wait to laugh my head off as that girl's head exploding is her freeze frame in the credits, and in full HD, to boot!

This is awesome news in it's own right, but the fact that Lionsgate is looking to release other titles makes it even better! Would love to see stuff like Return of the Living Dead 3 and the Waxworks movies on Blu-ray.

Nice. I'm surprised it's taken them this long with the popularity of boutique horror/cult labels like Scream Factory, Arrow, etc. Hopefully they dig deeper for some other goodies we've been waiting for. I believe they have the rights to Fright Night 2 which is one I'd want to see.

Lionsgate? Putting out an obscure '80s horror movie, restored with extras?
Consider me shocked as all hell. I wonder what else they're planning?

I'll only believe this when I've got the BD in my hands. Having been burned too numerous times to count in the past with such fruitless 'announcements', I'll consider it a miracle if CHOPPING MALL does, indeed get released, and an even greater miracle if the encode and transfer are anything but ordinary (AKA: "It looks better than the DVD!"), slapped on a BD25 with 8 GB of wasted space.

Hmmm...I wonder if my dream of seeing Alligator on Blu might finally come true over the next year or two. I think I saw a cut version of this film on tv/basic cable many years back. This is the movie where robot security guards go kray kray after a lighting storm or something like that, right (I also vaguely remember the final scenes involved paint cans)? Another thing, I also believe this film was under a different name when I saw it on TV.

We have a release date! September 27th, which, coincidentally, is my wedding anniversary, and I guess I know what I'm asking for.

They're also putting out Blood Diner that day, as well as a repackaged version of Evil Dead II.
MSRP is a whopping $39.99, though.

Can't wait for this release! Hopefully Lionsgate does it justice.
I still have my DVD copy that I got signed by Barbara Crampton a few years ago.
