Once these hit UHD, I'll start buying in. But no use in buying a 4k remaster if it's still in 1080p.

I prefer the Director's Cut only because it establishes why Scotty would bring Preston to the bridge (or even cares that much about him in the first place). The "back and forth" editing of the Kirk/Saavik elevator conversation also flows better.

I don't own any version of it on BR yet, so I guess I'm in for this one.

I might argue that it cheapens the scene by suggesting that the only reason Scotty cares about this kid is that he's a blood relative. Removing that storyline leaves us with a Scotty who feels responsible for and has a personal investment in the fate of every member of his crew. They're all family to him, and he takes it hard when he loses any of them, especially one so young.

Re: Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan Director's Cut - 6/7/16

I've preferred the director's cut since I was a kid and my copy of TWOK was taped off an ABC showing with extra footage. It wasn't exactly the same as what's on the DC DVD but it's very similar, and I watched that taped-from-air VHS* copy so many times that the theatrical version simply feels wrong.

I'm still debating on getting this, I don't have any of the first 10 movies on Blu and this would be a good one to get.

(* I also had a copy of Return of the Jedi taped from a TV broadcast, but this was missing several scenes. They still seem odd when I watch it on DVD now.)

They're not going to happen, unfortunately. The remaster team already disbanded, and there weren't enough sales of the TOS and TNG BD's:

They only have themselves to blame for the lack of sales. Purely due to the extreme overpricing on the TNG sets.

If Scotty cared that much about the people serving under him, why does the Engineering crew all wear red shirts?

It is remastered and the most complete version out there.

It's from a specialty soundtrack label, so you can't order it from Amazon (well, you can, but you'd be paying a very inflated price from a third party for it). In my opinion, the best places to order it are either intrada.com or screenarchives.com , where you can buy it at its actual $20 list price (plus shipping).

(You can get nice remastered and expanded versions of nearly all the Star Trek movie soundtracks from the same places. Unfortunately the ST:TMP one is temporarily out of print, but it is supposedly coming back in print eventually.)

All I see are II and III.

I meant that you can find expanded versions of all the Star Trek movie soundtracks at intrada.com or screenarchives.com. Just search for "star trek" at either site, although you have to be careful at screenarchives.com because they list both the old, unexpanded CDs as well as the new ones. Intrada just stocks the new ones.

You only see II and III at filmscoremontly.com because those are the only two that label released. The soundtracks for the other movies were released by other specialty soundtrack labels.

I'm definitely going to pick this up. I much prefer the longer version/director's cut to the theatrical version. I held off on buying the Wrath of Khan blu ray until they released this version.

I'm assuming the mockup art incorrectly used "The Director's Cut" banner for Star Trek: The Motion Picture.

If I didn't have the two box sets already I'd be tempted by those Steelbooks simply for the fact that they have the original theatrical posters for the covers.

The new FX for the Director's cut of TMP were only rendered at standard definition, so the Bluray is only the original theatrical cut.

It would be great to hear if they've re-rendered them for hi-definition, but it's not likely.

Yeah, I don't care who the guy is, but I tend to hate about 99.8% of any Mondo type looking shit on a cover for something like this. Studios should hold contests where people could submit their own artwork and have a vote for it. My bet is that most non-Mondo looking stuff will win.

Agreed. Though among the 0.2% of the Mondo art that looked great was the True Detective steelbook:

Agreed. And it looks good because it doesn't look exactly the same as all the other ones they put out.
