I don't want to be the type of person that attacks artists for their decisions, but this is a product that already exists and existed with Coppola's input. It obviously has it's fans, so it just feels petty to withhold it like this.

Honestly this is a great lesson in the power of editing and effective use of flashbacks. The DeNiro scenes tend to drag on and feel like they are missing 30-45 minutes of additional narrative (sure enough, they last 75 minutes, making it just too short to be its "own film"), The Godfather itself is fine as it is linear and the additional scenes actually add to the story. So far, I have an hour left in Godfather II and without the thematic flashbacks to show the parallel between Michael and Vito, it's a very tough slog to get through.
