^ and if Fox is correct in it's announcement that the object based mix would be exclusive to the UHD editions, the audio would either state DTS-X or Dolby Atmos. Those specs are not finalized, or in my mind, correct.

It does say March 1st release date though, so it's not the one coming out next week. But, yeah, there is no 4K + 3D version coming out.

Re: The Martian - 1/12/16

It's going to be $19.99 for the 2D and $24.99 for the 3D at Target next week though, so still a pretty good deal with the gift card preorders.
$26.99 at Best Buy and $24.99 at Amazon for the 2D.

I hope those prices drop.

Amazon is down to $24.99 for the 3D, $22.99 for the 2D. Also, I was on Blu-ray.com and they said $24.99 for the 3D version at Best Buy which is probably why Amazon went down as well.

Re: The Martian - 1/12/16

Digital HD sales of director Ridley Scott’s “The Martian” have soared to a new record, making it the quickest-selling live action Digital HD title ever, according to Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment.

The title has sold 1 million Digital HD copies to date, reaching that milestone in just three weeks of availability, reported the studio. The sci-fi hit, which debuted on Digital HD Dec. 22, was also the industry’s best-selling live action Digital HD title in its first week of release.

I'll gladly wait, told ya.

(And yes, Scott says, there will be a director's cut of "The Martian" with 20 minutes of unseen footage.)

Already have the 3D en route. I'll pick up the directors cut on 4K later on.

Ridley "Director's Cut" Scott is at it again. Kingdom of Heaven is the one case I can recall where the DC is a definite improvement.

Blade Runner? Most people seem to like it better.

I have a hard time imagining some extra footage fucking this film up. It's a pretty straight forward flick.

Next to the voiceover removed, some different edits, and scenes added, that's all the Final Cut had. No major changes in storyline, save for the removal of that happier ending. The DC of Kingdom of Heaven added in some major storylines with the main characters. I think it's the only Scott film to do that.

Still not the theatrical cut.

Would the changes to Legend be considered a "director's cut". The change of soundtrack alone makes that version of the movie superior to the Theatrical for many people.

you do know that Goldsmith's score was also on the European cut of 'Legend' - personally I like that cut which is on UK bluray (region free).

Matt Damon just won Best actor in a comedy for this tonight in the Golden Globes.

Still scratching my head at that ridiculous nomination.

Are the both considered the official theatrical version? Wasn't there other minor changes beyond the score?

Yes, the European theatrical cut was a slightly longer edit of the film, but (other than the score) the differences aren't that significant. The Director's Cut came much later (created for DVD) and completely reworks the movie to try to make something vaguely coherent out of it.

That's the very definition of faint praise .

For those that pre-ordered the 3D via Target for $27.99, you can call them to get the $3 adjustment as it is in their ad for $24.99. Keep in mind they will not give back the tax you paid. They may, as they stated to me, tell you that you don't qualify if you pre ordered prior to 14 days ago. I had to mention to them that it was released today.

They sent me an email stating they did this automatically yesterday. Though they didn't really explain why which left me a little confused until I did some digging.

Was really surprised they did this to be honest but I will take it!

I picked up the 2D Blu at target yesterday. The posted price was 22.99 but I scanned it and it scanned at $15. I picked up a copy.

Re: The Martian - 1/12/16

Double dip was confirmed as in the works at some NASA panel. Would have been nice if they had cleared that up before the first release. But many people (like me) noted the extreme lack of extras for a R. Scott movie and held off knowing there would be a better release coming.
