I Believe that they just dropped the disc of extras for each season. I suppose that we could hope that they would include them in this box set, but somehow, given the current state of the market, I am not holding my breath.

The new disc-based extras in the Mythology sets were some new commentary tracks and a Mythology featurette on each set. All of these new items were listed in the press release.

Was there a second fully complete press release? Because the first one that most people saw (including me) was incomplete if it's now being reported that all extras are carried over. Great news if true, but I'll still be waiting for confirmation once they ship and are received. Been burned before and don't need this on day one.

"When Fox announced the Blu-ray release of The X-Files: The Complete Series last week, we posted their complete press release here on The Bits including details about the extras the set will offer. Based on that list, it was clear that all of the Mythology Collection DVD extras would be included, but sharp-eyed fans noticed that some items from the previous individual season DVD releases weren’t listed. Thus, nervous fans began to e-mail us worrying that not everything would carry over to Blu-ray. [Read on here…]

Well... now you can all rest easy. I’ve been talking with Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment over the past week or so, pointing out the items that appeared to be missing. They’ve kindly double-checked for me, and have confirmed that everything from the previous individual seasons DVDs and the Mythology Collection DVDs will be included on the Blu-ray. And I do mean everything. No extras have been omitted. So when you purchase the Blu-rays, all the extras you’re familiar with will be there."

Price is currently at $225. I guess I missed the $150 preorder.

The $150 price point was only during the NY Comic-con weekend.

It will probably be back down to $150 or less again. I can see this being an Amazon DOTD.

I want to pre-order, but I will wait until I can find for $150...or else I will just hang onto my DVDs and Netflix streams.

It looks like the individual season sets will also be sold for $30 a pop. So that might actually be a better deal assuming Fox Connect has another 50% off sale. Since the box set won't be eligible since it's over $100.

Also, a good way to avoid the later seasons.

And amazon.com had taken the listings down. That didn't take long. CSM strikes again.

I don't get all the hate for the John Doggett years. I liked Robert Patrick a lot. He was no Fox Mulder, but there were some good episodes in there.

I liked Doggett and Reyes. I think if Duchovny had stayed it would have been worse than what we got after he left. You can tell in season 7 that he had already checked out. I think if the finale hadn't been so ho hum that people might of looked back on seasons 7,8 and 9 better.

You're right, he was in it for the last 2 seasons which was 40 episodes or so. So out of the 40, I think I remember 5 or less being decent. Regardless, I'll be watching them all again when the set comes in.

The problem wasn't Robert Patrick, it was that the show had long ago lost any sort of real vision and path. The fact that Mulder was gone simply highlighted that fact.

I think the general consensus is that Doggett is looked favorably on. It was Reyes's terrible character and forcing Mulder into plots that were the problem.

Once Duchovny left, that should have been it. A mention here or a nod there. Having entire stories revolve around finding Mulder and what he might be up to(and a baby?) was a shortsighted decision. It's better to just rip the off the band-aid. Look at the last season of Scrubs. The first 6 episodes they shoehorned JD into were some of the series' worst. Once he was gone it freed up the writers, and characters were able to grow more organically.

I think most long-time fans liked Doggett. Reyes just seemed like a weird pseudo-Scully replacement with more of Mulder's beliefs.

I agree focusing on Mulder after he left was a poor decision. I think they were hoping Duchovny would wake up and return.

The X-Files was always about Mulder's journey, so to just have his character unceremoniously written out sort of derailed the series.

But even then, most of the seventh season was wasted when it looked like it was going to be DD's last. And they closed off the long-running Samantha arc in the stupidest way possible.

There was nothing inherently wrong with either Robert Patrick or Doggett, but when he came aboard the series was already floundering. And viewers were given a soft reboot (Mulder replacement, that insipid super soldier shit, Scully replacement) without any closure for all of the stuff that had been set up in the previous seasons.

Re: X-Files Collector's Box Set - 12/8/15

It became clear around season six that Chris Carter had either no intention of giving a good resolution to the show's mysteries, or he didn't know how. The fact that The Truth is Out There added nothing to the main storylines of the show reinforced that fact. I honestly don't expect the new miniseries to either.

Re: X-Files Collector's Box Set - 12/8/15

If memory serves, around season six was when Chris Carter told Fox that he wanted to wrap up the mysteries and end the show, but Fox said it was still profitable, and that they were going to keep making it. They offered Carter two options: either he keep making the show, without wrapping up the mysteries, so that they could keep the show going for however many more seasons it kept making them money, or else he could walk, and they'd do the show without him. He decided he'd rather make a compromised show than let someone else take control entirely.

And then they returned the favor by giving him a measly $30 million to shoot I WANT TO BELIEVE.

I seem to recall the same thing seamusmclean said. Carter begrudgingly kept it going to keep Fox from ruining it and ended up ruining it himself. Irony.

Re: X-Files Collector's Box Set - 12/8/15

Not that it's going to stop me from buying this set, but some of those individual covers are terrible.

In particular, seasons 4, 6, and 9. They look really badly photoshopped and the "X" motif on these are particularly desperate. Especially the flashlights on season 4. Does anyone believe they are holding flashlights like that?
