Any older WB disc playback issues

Here's something interesting and I don't recall reading about Warner in particular (and I'm not trying to sound the panic alarm) but I've had two different discs die out on me.

Few months back my copy of The Departed crapped out at one point becoming unplayable over several machines. Tonight, loaded up Superman the Movie, wouldn't even go to menu (these were both ride on my Panasonic in bedroom and PS4).

Anyone else experienced this (discs were bought in 08 and 09)?

Were these Blu-rays, DVDs, or HD-DVD's?

I don't remember hearing of any widespread problems with WB's Blu-rays in the past. Though it wouldn't shock me if a few Blu-rays fail along the way. It seems like DVDs start showing problems earlier when they are faulty. A few BDs seemingly play for a few years before dying.

No problems with Warner, just a few Lion's Gate titles like Basic Instinct and Reservoir Dogs with the foil covers.

Once Maple bought the rights to Lion's Gate titles (at least here in Canada), there hasn't been any issues that I know of with the Maple versions. (knock on wood)

Warner HD-DVD is another story when it comes to problems!

Sorry, these were both Blu Rays, just weird that two of the early titles from the same studio failed.

Any visible signs on the discs?

A general question. Is it possible for firmware updates to make previously playable discs unplayable? I ask because these discs both appear to be early releases.

I remember an early copy of Bank Job stop working. I bought years later for next to nothing and it still works without a problem, so I'd agree with the early Lionsgate titles going defective.

Discs look fine.

I was thinking that could be a possibility also, but I imagine the issue would be more widespread.

I also notice that Superman still goes for roughly $8 so many years later, guess I'll wait to pick it up at a cheaper price.

Can a computer bluray-rom drive read these discs?
