Pulled the trigger. This is, after all, the future of physical media. Oh, joy. I suppose I should be grateful it's only $35 at this point.

Thanks for posting this - very informative. For those interested, it is episode 77 and the Twilight Time portion begins around the 41 minute mark.

Wasn't there a time when certain laserdiscs cost between $50-$150 a pop? I guess we're slouching that way again.

The days of studios quintuple dipping titles like American Pie are over.

Thank you, Netflix.

Some VHS tapes were $100 a piece. I wonder what that would be now with inflation taken in to consideration.

Those VHS cassettes were rental priced. In the early days of VHS, the format was strictly aimed at the rental market and those $100 tapes were not meant for general sales to consumers.

I don't think the home video market will ever bear $50-$150 prices again. There just aren't enough collectors out there willing to pay out prices like that for DVD and blu-ray. We're so completely saturated in media that novelty of paying those kinds of prices is gone.

Maybe we'll see a specialty market pop up, like those expensive Pearl Jam re-releases of classic albums or signed limited editions of books, but only a very select handful of titles would be able to pull that off.

My first VHS tape was a pan and scan of Forbidden Planet for $75. $125 for the LD of the Rocky Horror Picture Show with book and gold CD. No, I'll never pay prices like that again!

I got that Rocky Horror box. Luckily, I got it for a discount at $50. What a deal. I did pay $100 for my Aliens box back in the day. I was so excited when I got that to finally see the restored director's cut, something new back then. I remember thinking what a deal the $19.99 LD cut out bin was at Camelot Records.

I regretting missing the first one, and when this version was first rumored I was planning an instabuy. But the new me is vowing that 2015 is the year to reduce clutter.

That said, I hope it sells out soon so the temptation is gone.

Yes, this comes out in 2015 but the pre-order was up in 2014 so order away, your conscience is clear. Come back to the dark side.

I thought the pre-order began January 20th. Thankfully, I checked this thread and was able to order a copy before it was too late. ("You're so bad, Brewster!")

So 5000 copies lasted 48 hours. Has anyone looked at eBay to see the going-scalping rate?

1000 of them will actually be opened and played and the other 4000 will remain a hermetically sealed collectible.

Sadly, you may not be far off on that guess.
