Dexter Complete Series Box which was about $106. A good deal, but the most expensive Blu-ray set I've purchased. Of course, technically, there's the HP Ultimate Editions, which I just had to have, so those are a Blu-ray set. Some of those were not cheap.

Re: Most expensive blu-ray set you have bought?

I know Blu Ray was the format in question, but regardless my contribution to this thread:

I spent close to 300 dollars back in the day on dvd for the 6 disc Werner Herzog Documentaries and Shorts box set containing 25 films that was only made available through his website.

I'm about to spend around 275 dollars for the complete Wonder Years collection on dvd from Time Life.

My mother collected the original A&E released Dr Quinn Medicine Woman complete series for around 145 dollars a season. (Which later sold as a complete series for about 50 bucks)

I also spend over 100 dollars each for the original Godfather and Nightmare On Elm Street box sets on dvd when they first came out.

Blu Ray:

105 dollars for the Deluxe Halloween set. Thats my highest so far.

Re: Most expensive blu-ray set you have bought?

I think I paid 125 for the Bond 50 set. I think that's the most expensive blu ray. The most expensive dvd was "The Real Ghostbusters" steelbook set that was only available via timelife. Ended up selling it for the same as I paid.

Single movie would probably be the Nightbreed Limited Edition blu-ray. Box set would probably be The Halloween blu-ray set. I remember when the single seasons of the X-Files were $150.00 on DVD.

I bought the first seven seasons of The X Files back in the early to mid 2000's back when TV on DVD was a relatively new thing. Each set cost just over $100.00. These were the original release season DVD sets that contained all of the extra features.

Wow, I had no idea the Breaking Bad set was that expensive.

Yeah, my most expensive DVD set was the Godfather set for $85 back in the day. I've been more picky since then.

Are you sure it is the version with all the extras(car, trading cards, etc.)?

If so...they have the msrp priced incorrectly at $199.92, because if it really is the deluxe complete set, I may pull the trigger.

I cannot find a listing for the plain jane blu ray set at Amazon, so this seems legit, but still nervous and need to put some thought into this purchase.

There is no plain version of this set on the American market, that won't happen for at least another year or two. The stripped-down set is an import from Germany. Yes, Bullmoose is selling the limited edition set with car.

Re: Most expensive blu-ray set you have bought?

I paid ¥ 22,520 (about $210) for the Complete Columbo BD set from Japan.

As far as things like the X-Files original series sets, I got all those through Amazon using GC codes during the incredible 2000-2001 boom including Freeride, Jaboom, Vividence, Firstlook, etc...

I 'earned' over $2600 during that time.

I'm still pissed about the Bond sets, since I got the ones from 2008 or so which they never bothered to finish releasing.

In the early days of the Internet's emergence as a retail force, companies would give away gift certificates and cash, for click-throughs and other web surfing. It was basically free money, given away by new Internet companies spending their start-up money.

Either the Halloween set or the Friday the 13th set, I believe it was Halloween though.

Re: Most expensive blu-ray set you have bought?

Breaking bad barrel $180 still pissed about this since I screwed up 2 chances to get this cheaper --but I had to have it and by the time I realized it was selling out CH was my only hope.
$118 for dexter complete
$99.99 for Bond 50
$72 for Star Trek TOS set
~$70 for the Titanic UK gift set
~$110 for the UK Hitchcock film reel set

My absolute WORST blu ray purchase >$100 for Lost S1-S5

I also have Batman 66 preordered for $150, but I'm debating on whether to wait for a better deal. I want this as about as much as Breaking Bad, but will it sell out quickly? Fans have been waiting 10 years for this set, but I don't think it has the mass appeal of Breaking Bad. But it is Batman --what to do ...

DVD
$386 for Dark Shadows coffin LE with autographed
$80 for Star Trek TNG complete
Xfiles complete $110
Stargate SG 1. $110
Six Feet Under $99.99 (Amazon DOTD)
Oz all six seasons $99.99 ( sold unwatched for $150)

In the early days of DVD
Around $70-$80 for season sets of Xfiles, Star Trek TNG. Thank goodness I sold most of those off before they dropped too much in price.

Re: Most expensive blu-ray set you have bought?

(Off topic).

My most expensive disc set purchase, was not a bluray or dvd release.

It was the "Eddie's Archive" cd set from Iron Maiden.

Re: Most expensive blu-ray set you have bought?

I just got the Friday the 13th set for $39, pretty sure that's my most expensive set. My most expensive single movie would be Re-Animator, when I got the UK import for about $30. Well, in a way I got it for free, because they sent me Disney's Robin Hood steelbook which I didn't want, so they let me keep it and sent my Re-Animator. I then sold Robin Hood on eBay for about $30
