Re: Criterion Wish List

Cronenberg's Crash. Films by Takashi Miike and Kiyoshi Kurosawa, two great Japanese film makers who don't seem to have any excellent region 1 BDs.

Upgrades for:

Sword of Doom
Le Samourai
Dead Ringers
Blood for Dracula
Flesh for Frankenstein
Samurai Rebellion
Onibaba
Bergman's Faith Trilogy
The Human Condition

Re: Criterion Wish List

I'm still pretty bitter that to date not a single Werner Herzog film has been released by Criterion.

Re: Criterion Wish List

Off the top of my head: Primer. It's out of print and hasn't been on Blu-ray but you can get a HD digital copy from ERPB Films' website. Criterion can have a field day gathering the written materials about the film and...more science fiction!

Re: Criterion Wish List

I wouldn't mind seeing Criterion release Lost Highway. Now that Lynch is in the collection, hopefully more of his films will follow.

Fuck yes. I'd say a second Miike box set with all three Dead or Alive films plus some great one-offs like The Bird People In China and Agitator would be most welcome.

Re: Criterion Wish List

Would also like to add, Paul Brickman's "Men Don't Leave". A long forgotten little gem of a movie. With great performances by everyone in the cast. I love Brickman's directing style and it's puzzling that he's only helmed two movies in his entire career. This (made in 1990) and "Risky Business" (1983). Giving it more thought, other films I'd like to put on my Criterion wish list would be:

"Sid and Nancy"
"Ruby in Paradise"
"Prizzi's Honor"
"Depeche Mode 101" (D.A. Pennebaker)
"One from the Heart" (Coppola)
"52 Pick-Up"
"Romper Stomper"
"Testament" (1983)
"Stormy Monday"
"Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore"
"Star 80"
"Drugstore Cowboy"
"Victor Victoria"
"Agnes of God"
"The Trip to Bountiful"
"You Can Count on Me"
"Bugsy"
"Romeo is Bleeding"
"Death Becomes Her"
"The Fourth Man" (Verhoeven)

I think they hinted at Drugstore Cowboy a little bit ago, but I may be mistaken.

I don't foresee them releasing it now

I don't go crazy over Criterion like some people but since the possibility of them releasing Mulholland Drive has been mentioned I'd love to see it on Blu-ray.

I wouldn't say I'm "crazy" for them either, but it's hard to deny the quality of their discs versus other distribution labels here in the US. I'd like all of my favorites movies to go to them, if not simply for the fact it would be pretty much guaranteed not to be a shit release.

Criterion and Shout/Scream Factory have kept me in to collecting. If all we did was rely on the major studios, more than I could imagine would never see the light of day in HD.

Nevertheless, they have a good relationship with director Monte Hellman, so I still hold out hope.

Re: Criterion Wish List

Since David Lynch is finally getting some CC love via Eraserhead, I'd love to see The Straight Story and/or The Elephant Man.

I don't know about that one, Disney owns the rights.
