Saw: The Complete Movie Collection - 9/23/14

The only ones that I would watch again were part 1 and 2 which were excellent. The others are one time watches. At that price, its worth it just for the first 2 if you don't have them.

The first Saw is one of the most genre-defining pictures of the past 25 years. The first couple of sequels are pretty good, until the rest descend into formulaic silliness.

The first movie is a pretty amazing accomplishment considering it was made for $1M and they got actors like Tobin Bell, Danny Glover, Monica Potter, Michael Emerson, Dina Meyer, and Cary Elwes who are better than your typical B list actors.

I feel like the later movies descended in to just trying to shock people and make them cringe, the first couple movies actually do a good job setting up some twisted and creative mind games.

Is everything beyond III that bad? Never seen them. And given similar comments I've seen about them, maybe I'm best just to stick the first three that I already have.

The thing is the entire series is pretty heavily serialized and every movie ties into each other. If you watch 4-7, they will have many references that tie into the earlier movies. 7 wraps up the entire series and brings back some old characters even from the 1st movie. If you enjoy movies like this that I think pretty creatively connects the plots together, then by all means at least finish the rest as rentals. But, yes they go more into gore and torture porn as the series comes to a close.

A date dragged me to Saw III opening weekend and I really felt I should have watched the first two before it. Some of the plot would have been more coherent to me.
I've since seen the first one, but not the rest. I'll likely pick this up for that price.

All the sequels beyond that seem to be stretching for storylines and feel like they were made simpy because the Saw movies were still making money at that point.

I don't have any of these on blu, so might bite.
Also wouldn't be shocked if there is an even better price for this in October for Halloween.

I own all seven on BD but I got the preorder in because less than $20 after tax is worth it to me to have all of them on Vudu.

The latter sequels are not unwatchable but they dragged Jigsaw's story needlessly out since he was the central character that everything revolved around. They even tried introducing characters meant to be his replacement but nothing ever came to full fruition. The latter movies are mostly exercises in unimaginative torture porn.

Seriously. VI is the best sequel, and possibly the best entry, in the franchise. If I had to rank them:
1. Saw VI
2. Saw II
3. Saw III
4. Saw
5. Saw 3D (The Final Chapter)
6. Saw IV
7. Saw V

Have they announced whether or not the Producers cut of part 6 will be part of the set? I'd be thrilled to finally get rid of my bootleg.

Haven't seen a single one of these, as the whole "torture porn" thing it helped to kick-start just doesn't really appeal to me. Maybe I'll pick this up on the cheap though.

Except VI is awesome in how it went from torture porn into being a (n extremely violent) political satire and extremely anti-Republican.

I agree part 6 was actually a really well done sequel that was pulling the series back on track. I didn't like parts 4 or 5, and was mixed on parts 2 and 3. However, since every film ties together, no matter how far fetched. You do need to be familiar with the previous films. But part 6 impressed me as much as the original film did the first time I saw it. So it's a shame they couldn't keep that quality up with every installment.
While this set may just include the unrated versions and or just the current editions packed together. I do think it'd be great if they were to do a complete set, with both the theatrical and unrated/alternate/directors cuts. Since the unrated versions had tons of re-edits in them, some good, some bad along with exclusive footage that it makes for a different viewing experience.
But the price for the set is very reasonable in my opinion. So I won't complain about that.

I'm a horror fan but not really into the torture porn stuff like the Saw or Hostel films. The low price is almost tempting but it's a pass for me as I just don't see myself wanting to revisit them. Decent deal for people who want them all though.

Ill definitely be picking this up at the price, its been forever since I seen any of them, but only have seen 1-3. Everyone has been pretty much across the board on the series being good at connecting the plots as the series goes on, and I already know I am not getting groundbreaking Criterion Collection caliber filmmaking so this will be a fun binge watch over the course of a 30 pack of warm keystone and a carton of cigarettes.

I have all the films on DVD, but I want to wait to see what features get carried over (or not) before I make a purchase.

I actually only own the first one and on DVD, haha. The second one disappeared so I am pretty sure a stupid ex girlfriend took it and threw it into the ocean. To be honest, I don't remember too much about the third one so it will be fun to look at all of them with fresh eyes. I was hoping they would all be on Netflix like the Leprechaun movies (still?) are but NoOoOoOoOo.

Good news: getting this on pre-order for $17+ was a solid price.
Bad news: All films presented with lossy DD 5.1 audio and NO extras.
Honestly, I couldn't care less about bonus features for this series, but lossy audio? WTF, LG?
