Mad Men: The Final Season, Part 1 - 10/21/14
Up for preorder over at Amazon. I really hate that they are splitting it up over two releases like Breaking Bad (which I still haven't bought part 2 yet, grrrrr). And shit like this makes me wish I would have waited for the complete series release. Oh well, I guess we should be happy that we are getting it at all on Blu Ray

Makes no sense to do this now, after every season before was never released like this. I'll wait until the whole season is on one set, then buyout it for $9.99 like every season before.

Since AMC handled Breaking Bad the same way, and we never got a complete season set (it was just labeled season five and the final season), why are we thinking there is going to be a complete season release? Or is everyone just hoping they are going to do something different for Mad Men (which is still highly unlikely).

$27.98 for 7 episodes. Isn't that pre-order price still cheaper than what Sony was asking for Breaking Bad. I think Sony's MSRP for both 8 episode seasons was a lot higher.

Yeah I doubt that we get a complete final season set. Probably two individual sets and a complete series set.

I know the whole split season thing with this show is BS, but we all knew this was coming.
But, in a way I think we're kind of spoiled with these super discounts for TV on DVD or BD. Alot of people here don't have any problems paying $24-25 for a new release 90 minute to 2 hour BD movie, but $27.98 or even $19.99 for over 7 hours of content plus extras is too expensive?
I don't recall off hand, but did anyone here purchase both parts of the Breaking Bad split 5th season right away? Or did most of you wait months later because you deemed it too expensive?

I wonder if the complete series set will have a lot of extra bonus content not on the season sets. Though the regular season sets are already overflowing with good content.

I bought both Breaking Bad: The Fifth Season and Breaking Bad: The Final Season the week they came out.

S6 had zero commentaries so I'm not sure what the "overflowing" is about?

Extras:
"Gay Rights" Featurette
"Gay Power" Featurette
"The Trial of the Chicago Eight: Parts One and Two" Featurette
"The Best Things in Life are Free" Featurette

0 commentary tracks yet again. Man, Lionsgate has really dropped the ball on the Mad Men sets. They used to be so packed with extras.
And what the hell is up with 2 Gay themed featurettes?
The back 7 set probably won't be released until Fall 2015, but if Matt Weiner doesn't do at least 1 commentary track for the series finale, I will be extremely pissed.

The lack of worthy extras clearly point to a complete series down the line with "new" extras for the more recent seasons. Or maybe some retailer exclusives like Target has had recently, which also end up in the complete set down the line.

Just saw the DVD Talk review and it appears there are commentary tracks on all 7 episodes, which is good.
I saw Target has this for $19.99 with a 30 minute bonus disc. I'm tempted because I don't know how long the bonus disc will be around. But $19.99 for just 7 episodes is kind of expensive.

If anyone cares, it looks like Target has a pretty good exclusive extra; the cast at Paleyfest 2014. I'm sure it'll be on youtube soon, if it isn't already, but still cool to have it on blu-ray.
