I don't know Rain Man well enough to have noticed any framing issues with the remastered BD when I recently watched it.

I have the old Man With No Name set, the one with the DNR'd GBU. I'm reading conflicting reports on the 4K restored set. Were all three films restored, or just GBU? And does the old set have a real mono mix or just a folddown? Is it worth getting the new set at all, or am I going to be stuck importing them from Italy or Germany?

I'm watching the old GBU disc now. It definitely has some DNR, but it's not the travesty that many have made it out to be. I'd prefer a more detailed, less smoothed down version, but if it looks like there'll be a better all around set coming, then I can hold onto this one for a while.

The old GBU does not have the mono track. The new version does. However, in the first pressing of the new set, the mono track was inadvertently left off the disc. There was a silent reissue and newer copies have the corrected disc. There was also a single release of the new GBU which has always had the mono track.

The other two films in the trilogy both are the older, unrestored versions in the new box set. FoD has undergone a restoration similar to GBU, but I'm not sure if it's been issued on BD anywhere yet. From what I've seen of it, it has the same yellow/green color timing as the GBU, with which many were unhappy. I think FaFDM was scheduled to undergo restoration at some point as well, but I'm not sure if work has begun or not.

Hmm, so it's a question of whether or not I want the improvements for GBU. I guess I could just get the standalone disc in that case.

The FOD restoration was done at 4K and premiered at Cannes on the 50th anniversary, where Tarantino whined incessantly that it "depressed" him because it wasn't a 35mm print.
