In all fairness, it was only brought up because the color timing of this BD is different than that of previous releases of this movie. That and the fact that Friedkin made drastic color timing changes to at least one other of his features brings to mind the revisionist tinkering of the likes of Ridley Scott and James Cameron.

They also digitally made his mouth open instead of being shut.

Check out the other screenshots. It's like a Viagra commercial.

From the review, I found this interesting:

Director Michael Mann's original 35mm answer print was used as a color reference, and Mann supervised and approved the entire transfer.

I did. I read it twice to make sure I read it correctly.

Somehow they're oblivious to it.

Well gee - that worked great! The following ten posts have zero to do with SORCERER. (In fairness, they had nothing to do with ALIENS, either...)

I'm hearing great things from those who've seen SORCERER on BD and I'm really anxious now. Just three more days to release date. I'm hoping Amazon gets it out on time, but so far, no signs of them moving at all.

Doesn't Amazon have on day arrival? If you're a prime member.

My preorder is still in. Grrrrrr. I want to cancel it. But...1080p, OAR, and... It is such a damn good film.

Re: William Friedkin's Sorcerer - April 22

I'm an Amazon Prime member but didn't select on-day shipping, just the free two-day. They always seem to make me wait for my most anticipated releases, but I refuse to give them any MORE money for a one-day privilege. I'm an adult and can wait a day if I have to.

I've had the SORCERER disc on pre-order since January. You'd think they'd have a way to reward valued customers like that, but it all seems so random and disconnected.

What's interesting is that portion of the review is apparently quoting from Criterion?

To keep this topic from continually muddying this thread, is there a Thief thread?

It's buried within the Criterion releases on Blu-ray, Part II. But no dedicated thread for it.

Do not cancel. I'm in the same boat Snake, but stick this shit out.

It's Sorcerer.

"damn good film" is an understatement.

Thanks. I was wondering why search wasn't turning up a dedicated thread.

Re: William Friedkin's Sorcerer - April 22

Yeah. The CC thread and that thread I made in the Movie section is probably the most that film has life in here.

I guess we can make a Thief HD thead. Cuz... It is a big deal to have it on BD. Some films deserve their own BD thread. I'd think that Thief is such a film.

I honestly didn't look into Thief's specs. Cuz I wasn't going to get it till the sale but... holy fuck. Didn't know Mann went revisionist on it too. Even weirder is that the original negative was used as color reference. Granted...what IS out there from before the BD isn't 1080p but...the colors looked fine and seemed to accurately represent what was intended to be seen. A little dusty but... it looked fine to me considering when whatever that source was made.

Best part of Thief is the teal walled tires.

Re: William Friedkin's Sorcerer - April 22

WARNING: While the Blu-ray is apparently a fine transfer based on early reviews, the DVD being issued the same day is merely a port of the old UNIVERSAL DVD.

http://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/dvd-...n=883929383047

Look at the back cover: It says "STANDARD VERSION" Modified to fit your screen.

Same report on a reviewer on Amazon.
