Re: Disney's Frozen - 3/18/14

After 11 weeks in theaters, this movie is still crushing it. This past weekend, it was #2. I'm curious to see Disney does hold off on a 3D version for now and re-releases a special edition later on this year with it included.

WTF is up with Disney and 3D? It releases a bare bones 3D only version of Oz The Great and Powerful, then no 3D version at all for Frozen??

3D sales have tanked. It's what happens.

and yet for some of us who WANT the 3D we are all importing and not bothering with a US version if one ever comes out - talk about skewering the 3D sales and upping the parallel import sale numbers.

Yet they're releasing the 3D version in just about every other country except the US. And with Thor The Dark World, it has a 3D release combo, but with no DVD. It's looking like they don't know what they're doing now.

Yeah, so like 100 people will import. Not gonna change anything. Weird it wasn't atleast a store exclusive.

Re: Disney's Frozen - 3/18/14

Di$ney's 3D sales are tanking because they've been pricing them too damn high! I have almost EVERY 3D title released so far just to show my support, but most of the ones I don't have are from Disney because of the prices!

You can, however, buy a 3D copy of Frozen on Vudu for the low low price of $35.99, and that's assuming your equipment even supports Vudu in 3D (mine doesn't!)

Either way Disney is getting your money. It just won't be from US sales.

Di$ney usually doesn't like when people import their stuff though- oddly their recent Blu-Rays haven't been region-coded however.

Makes sense... It costs more to create 3D subtitles, especially if it's only for this presentation. (Not cost effective for theatrical, but the home market? Maybe.)

Region Free BD players can be had for like $50-$75. If you know how to import you can easily afford a Region Free BD player.

Damn, I bet some of the Disney folks wished they pushed the release date further back considering this huge box office run, especially since it's still not in all international markets.

Re: Disney's Frozen - 3/18/14

My Oppo BDP-93 is region-free for both formats (via a plug-in doohickey) and PAL compatible- player cost more than $80 but is actually well-built and not likely to die as fast as the few no-name DVD players I've had. I check most Blu-Rays for region coding and only Disney's earlier releases are region-locked- in fact most releases from them as well as Warner, Paramount and Universal are all-region.

I was initially going to buy an Oppo BDP-93. Then I saw the price of the player and the price of the mod and nearly had a heart attack. After realizing I'd have to take out a second mortgage to buy the Oppo, Panasonic plasma, and Bose speakers that is dreamed of, I decided to hedge my bets and get something cheaper . I wound up hopping onto eBay and picking up a modded region-free player there. It wasn't super high-tech, but the price was reasonable enough and so far it's served me.

There's a Sony region free one on amazon right now for under 100 (choose amazon as seller, but it seems to be backlogged by a month or so):

Re: Disney's Frozen - 3/18/14

Bose speakers???

The Oppo player's price is in line with the earlier Blu-Ray players, and certainly along the first DVD players and the last laserdisc players. I paid about $800 for my Pioneer DVL-909 combo DVD/laserdisc player in 1998, $500 for the Oppo was nothing

OPPO players are worth their asking price. Bose speakers are not.
