That's the Amazon premium edition. There will be a standard BluRay edition that should be cheaper.

Oh, you hoped the premium edition would be cheaper. It's not too bad considering most of Funimation's full 26 episode Anime editions go for $60 MSRP. But I'd have to admit every single BD release is pricier than I'd hope.

Yea, that Amazon exclusive also includes all the eps on DVD. Unnecessary? You bet.

I don't pay much attention to Anime in general, so I don't really have a frame of reference for pricing. The MSRP of $100 and $70 cost just seemed like a lot to me. If the only thing the premium edition includes is a DVD copy, that would be kind of boring.

Re: Cowboy Bebop - 2014

I know it's easy enough to cancel, but it's the number 1 bestseller in Blu on Amazon, and they haven't even announced what's premium about it yet...

Hmm... and number 9 is the UK imported Aladdin

It's sure to have supplements/collectibles, they just haven't announced what specifically yet. If they are underwhelming, I will cancel my pre-order and go with the standard BluRay.

Remeber when the original dvd's of Cowboy Bebop were released, they were 20 bucks a disc and came out one at a time. So those who have any of the dvd copies paid a lot of money for these sets

Yep, I did that twice, for the original release and then the Remix with 5.1 audio.

Don't remind me. And I paid a lot more for anime when it was released on VHS tapes too.

You mean 13 episode sets go for $70 if were talking limited editions. Of course I never pay that price I usually pre order and get 40% off. Attack on Titan is being released on 2 sets, the first was $90 and the second is $100 for a total of 25 episodes. Anime collecting can be expensive is such a niche market. I'm okay paying the price as I feel fans really have to support it to make sure a large variety of it continues to be released here. I doubt the Funimation.com version will be discounted much and the Amazon one maybe 40% off. They'll probably eventually release a S.A.V.E. version for dirt cheap.

Re: Cowboy Bebop - 2014

What would be great is if Funimation somehow were able to include the soundtrack CDs as part of the premium edition. But that would make the set super expensive.

I have never understood how anyone in Japan affords anything, prices are psychotic.

Re: Cowboy Bebop - 2014

I pondered getting the blu ray set from Japan a couple of years ago, but those prices killed that desire. Looking now, they're ¥ 18,900 ($184) and ¥ 29,455 ($287). So.....the Amazon price here is fine by me.

My understanding is that Japan is still a strongly rental market, since they don't have the physical space to own a lot of media. They even rent CDs.

You'd think those two factors (lack of physical space, really expensive media) would make piracy (or just taping off of the HD broadcast) rampant, and maybe it has, but the hardcore fan will still buy the disks to show off.

They announced what's in the amazon edition:

http://www.funimation.com/blog/2014/...usive-details/

Well, that cements it. Regular Blu for me.
