The Dark Knight Rises - Blu-ray + DVD + UV Digital Copy (Dec 07, 2012)

Sometime in 2013, WB is supposed to release "The Dark Knight Trilogy Ultimate Collector's Edition". I think this is mentioned in the press release about the transfer: For the IMAX portions of the film, running approximately a full hour when combined, Warner has created a "marriage of IMAX and 35mm formats by using the hybrid master to replicate the unique theatrical experience of integrated film formats."

Sounds to me like what they did for TDK.

I dunno. The wording makes it seem like they're using two different transfers for the 35mm and IMAX portions rather than a full IMAX master for the whole film (which is what was done with TDK). That sounds like good news to me. Now if only they'd remaster TDK in like manner.

Yeah. Sounds like what Rocshemp is saying. Which is great. We really need news on TDK.

I hate paying extra for stuff like this but I really like the look of it. Don't know if I should just wait and see if I get lucky as an eventual clearance item or go ahead and pick it up.

I really should stop doing pre-orders with Amazon, since store exclusives are becoming more rampant then ever.

soooo nothing yet if we got a new TDK transfer. Also...that's a horrible image they're using for the trilogy set.

The image doesn't show for me but I looked it up. The cover art for the trilogy set isn't as good for the US version as it is on the UK one if you ask me.

I'm wondering what'll be included in that Ultimate Collector's Edition, if it's just the 3 movies with that Best Buy exclusive doc packaged in with them or if we'll see a lot more additional material not in the original releases.

There is next to no chance of this. Warner loves to repackage old discs, and almost never remasters them. Casablanca is pretty much the only re-release I can think of that got a new transfer.
Also, I'm pretty sure that Christopher Nolan has blown off complaints about the existing Blu-ray. Unless he pressures the studio for a new master, it's unlikely to happen.
This is not something you should hold your breath over.

I guess I will pick up The Dark Knight Rises in December to complete my trilogy. And depending on what they do in the new Ultimate Edition set next year, I might have to double dip on that.

Since most of their UCE sets are filled with trinkets and things I really don't need, I'll probably get the trilogy set for Xmas this year.

I'm going to say no for 2 reasons. 1, the price says $34.99 which isn't a deposit price. 2, I don't think Best Buy has done any steelbook pre-orders of WB titles. I think they've always been for Disney only.
