Lionsgate/Miramax Steelbooks -11/24/13

These ten steelbook releases, which will feature the same transfers and extras as previous, non-steelbook versions, will start life as Best Buy exclusives this Sunday, but will have a wider release post-Black Friday.

I really like that the covers for Kill Bill Volume 1 and Kill Bill Volume 2 use poster art from the films but I've already got them both.

That's my issue here. I've already got the titles I want...

These were released a few weeks ago as Amazon.ca exclusives. User reviews on the page for T2 claim that it's a very low quality, dull matte finish that doesn't look nearly as good as the promotional photos. I would expect the same of the others.

I saw these in my local Best Buy today. They were $14.99 each. I took a quick look at some of them and those with multiple discs in past releases appeared to be single discs.

Terminator 2, Total Recall and Stargate also appear to be the older Blu-ray discs inside, when all three were re-released with new masters and/or supplements.

Maybe if these go to $9.99 I may consider. I have all the ones I already want.

These re-releases are only useful for the cases themselves. If you already own a better edition of the movie on Blu-ray, you can always just pop that disc into the new case.

I found the steelbook in store and it lists the extras from the newer Stargate release. Is that a packaging mistake?

It may not be. I wound up buying the Terminator 2 Steelbook today. (It's not as nice as the promo photo, but not as bad as the Amazon users had made it sound.) The disc inside is the Skynet Edition with all the bonus features. So I guess I was wrong, and these are the more recent discs in the cases.

I think the '15th Anniversary Edition' supplanted all previous releases, and is the one found in the new SteelBook.

That one is quite nice. Pity they dropped the second disc.

Of all those films, the only one I want and don't already own is Total Recall, but I'm not going out of my way to get it.

Highlander is the only one I'd consider double dipping on.

FYI, all of these are at Best Buy for $14.99. They had them in a display yesterday.

I think they all include a UV digital copy.
