I would hope so but, unfortunately, I wouldn't recommend assuming so.

Re: Studio Ghibli in HD

I saw a newly struck print 35MM print of Kiki's Delivery Service during a Ghibli Retrospective that the Alamo Drafthouse showed the past few months. Dubtitles! The same as on the DVD. Disney has rocks for brains.

It did have the Japanese titles. So at least it had that going for it. It really grinds my gears when companies replace the original titles. Even moreso when the credits start with the english dubbed actors in a subtitled version of a film. Bah!

I'm surprised they could even get a subtitled print out of Disney.

I believe the prints are touring the US right now in various art house cinemas. The Drafthouse's monthly newsletter mentioned they'd been to NYC, LA, & Chicago before making their way down here.

What the...? Why? The Japanese Blu-rays already have English subtitles! It's just copy and paste. It seems like it would be more work for them to make dubtitles at this point.

Your first link is broken. It takes you to a review of Polanski's Repulsion.

Re: Studio Ghibli in HD

Pre-ordered Arrietty and Whisper of the Heart using the $8 discount. I realized I was complaining about the lack of Ghibli on BD but I hadn't bought Nausicaa (I did get Ponyo, though) so this makes me feel a little better.

That's worrysome since, as I recall, the English language dub of Kiki has additional dialogue (mostly the cat making comments while offscreen) in shots that only play with music in the Japanese language dub.

The final scene USED TO have an extra line of dialogue with Jiji (which considerably changed the ending) in the VHS English dub, but the Disney DVD reissue deleted it.

If Disney retracted it knowing it was a mistake to add that line, why did they have to add the same kind of extra ending dialogue to "Arrietty" as well?!

Re: Studio Ghibli in HD

But not only that, the 2003 Kiki DVD and the 2010 Kiki DVD had some other significant changes to the English dub version

Most affected is Jiji, for whom Hartman had provided a number of witty ad-libs. Here, unless a character is explicitly shown to be speaking, they're silent. The silence goes even further in few scenes that had score apparently added for the English dub; these now appear without music. Other noticeable losses include Kiki and Jiji's in-flight and in-rain banter (particularly the latter, upon arriving in their new town), some of Tombo's lines, and a radio report. Furthermore, some minor changes occur in the credited titles of certain filmmakers.
Their review also claims that the 2003 DVD had only English credits, but this is wrong. It had both Japanese and English credit sequences, depending on which language you choose at the start.

It'll be interesting to see what will be on the eventual (so far unannounced) Kiki's Delivery Service BD.

Re: Studio Ghibli in HD

Want to voice a concern about "Castle In The Sky" to Disney?
Well, contact them and tell them that the English subtitle script is not a literal translation, and the rescored soundtrack that was on the 2003 DVD is missing. See if they can get it rectified.

Any re-scored soundtrack should be missing.

Re: Studio Ghibli in HD

I personally don't care for dub tracks, but in this case where the 2003 edition had the rescored alternate soundtrack by Joe Hisaishi, and is included on the Japanese and UK editions, why should it be missing from the US release. Either way, fire away at Disney's customer service and tell them that the English subtitle option is an incorrect translation.
