Singin' in the Rain - 7/17/12

No release date yet (the UK edition, sans trinkets, streets 7/16), but pre-order for the deluxe edition is up on Amazon.

I'm fine with a pricier digibook, but I'm not shelling out an additional $30 for a cheap-looking undersized umbrella that I'd never venture out in public with.

Wow I find that art borderline offensive, like it's some lame modern sitcom or something. Warner used to be so good with using poster art.

An umbrella...

Definitely an all-time fave, and definitely some really lame packaging - I'll buy it, but I'll still really miss the Warner of six or seven years ago.

I may just import the UK disc if it ports over all of the extras from the 2-disc SE.

It appears, per the promo image, to be 1 Blu-ray and 2 DVDs. Rather lame, but I guess novelty umbrellas that "justify" inflated MSRPs are cheaper than legitimate product.

Who will have the exclusive single disc this time? I'm betting Wal-Mart.

Editorial Reviews
America’s beloved musical gem, starring Debbie Reynolds, Gene Kelly and Donald O’Connor, celebrates its 60th Anniversary on Blu-ray for the very first time with an all new 3-Disc Blu-ray & DVD Ultimate Collector’s Edition. The sensational limited and numbered 3-Disc Ultimate Collector’s Edition will feature the film both on Blu-ray and DVD, and includes an all new hi-definition documentary, and special collectible memorabilia.

Sooo...would that be the same old documentary, just in hi-def, or totally new?

I haven't seen the doc yet (should get on that) but I doubt they'd take the time to remaster it in any way, shape or form. Must be something actually new. I'll be waiting for the trinket free edition, unless once again Amazon offers a UCE for a ridiculously low price. If I remember that right.

While I don't have an issue getting these UCEs, I'm currently in the mindset of waiting for Amazon to put them on sale ridiculously cheap before I bite as well. Same reason why I haven't grabbed Casablanca yet...

I do have a problem getting the UCEs, whatever the price. I want packaging that doesn't take up half of my shelf for one movie and I don't want to clutter my house with a box of trinkets.

Same here.

Warner seems to be trying to outdo themselves in the competition for biggest waste-of-space item in the box with the Casablanca coasters and Singin' in the Rain umbrella.

gonna do the UK import route, unless Target or Walmart gets a non-UCE release. Folks who saw the recent digital projection at this year's TCM Classic Film Festival say it looked amazing!

According to the cover shots at amazon, the new doc is on the BD. Unless I'm mistaken, that is the only new special feature. Since I have the two-disc DVD, I may just combine this new disc with the special features disc from that older set and the need for purchasing new rain gear is eliminated.

That's my plan as well, although I'll wait until it hits $9.99.

The single disc showed up in my Amazon quick pick today, I guess I'll bite on it.

That single disc art is just as bad. What's with the generic font? What happened to WB using theatrical posters on their classic films?
