was that just a DVD thing, I always wondered about that. I liked it but it always made it feel off.

From what I recall, it was added specifically for the Special Edition DVD, the prior VHS and DVD releases didn't have it, and I don't think it was ever presented theatrically like that.

Probably for the better it was out...though would've been neat to get the option of keeping it in. Probably was a nice way to introduce you to MP.

Wish I could say the same for all catalog BDs.
When they only release 6 or so catalog titles a year, they sure as heck better be nice! But at least we got an excellent looking copy of Milo and Otis.

One of my three favorite films, but doubt I'll take the plunge until it hits $5 somewhere. Nothing new, and I have all of the many DVD editions iirc.

Actually, there's two major new extras: Lost Animations (featuring Gilliam animations deleted from the film) and Extended Scenes and Outtakes (featuring extended/alternate takes of some scenes and some standard bloopers at the end), both in HD.

I just watched them last night. The video quality of these are really, really good, as good as the actual feature.

The Lost Animations extra is 18 minutes long, but 9 minutes of that is an intro/commentary of Terry Gilliam talking over the lost footage (including alternate takes and tiny snippets) and even playing a cut Neil Innes song. That's followed by "finished" versions of some of the longer animated segments. Having watched this extra using the "play all" button, I'd recommend others to instead watch the animation segments first, and the "intro" last.

The Extended Scenes and Outtakes features an intro with Terry Jones on camera talking about the extended scenes, interspersed with some clips of it, followed by the scenes themselves. It's largely additional dialogue, some of which I recognized from the Monty Python and the Holy Grail CD-ROM.

The iPad app sync "extra" seems extra offensive to me when I checked iTunes and discovered that the app is $5:

You are correct--it was one of my favorite bits from the DVD though, was hoping they'd retain it for the Blu.

And you have to pay for the iPad app? That is doubly-insulting.

If you buy the Blu-ray before 4/25, there's a mail-in rebate for the app.

Now, to dodge the insults, I'll bravely run away.

How do you get the rebate? I bought the Blu-ray, and didn't see any info about a rebate inside the case.

I agree that it's hard to imagine something like M&O flying off the shelves. Of course, I don't work for a movie studio either.

I'll take six releases that look like Sony's over 20 that look like Universal's any year. If they have no interest in putting them out themselves, they can license them to others. Makes no difference to me whose name is on the disc if the transfer is good.

Now back to Monty Python (aka something completely different)...

That's ridiculous. Even with the rebate.

I always find it annoying when theres no coresponding Android tablet app on releases like this. People who aren't grandmas or hipsters like Monty Python too!

Rebates are ridiculous especially on something like this.

Does this Bluray have the issue with the subtitles that plagued most of the DVD releases? Looking to upgrade to Bluray.

I dunno, what was the issue with the subtitles on the previous releases?

Don't worry, though. The people who were responsible for the subtitle issues have been sacked.
