The Spellbound cover is equally terrible (what is with the insane font design?) but for some reason I can't copy covers from Blu-ray.com to Photobucket like I could before - does anyone know why and/or how to do it now?

I really hope that MGM includes all of the extras from the DVDs - they have an irritating habit of dropping them. I couldn't find any official confirmation that the extras have been ported over.

Does anyone know whether Shadow of A Doubt is getting a bluray release anytime soon? I'll pick up Notorious at some point but I haven't seen Rebecca in 10 years or so. I think Spellbound is overated in the Hitchcock canon and probably have to rewatch that one.

Universal is rumored to be putting out a Hitchcock box this year. If it mirrors their gigantic DVD boxed set, then Shadow of a Doubt should be included. If it's pared down, as it's rumored to be, then you (and I!) will probably be waiting a while.

I'm also hoping for this one sooner rather than later.

The Criterion list (which has been spot-on so far) gives a 9/4 release date for the box.

Right. I meant Shadow of a Doubt specifically since it's unclear right now exactly what's going to be in the box, although...well, whatever is in the box, I want that too.

I wouldn't hold your breath: the BFI doesn't have the rights, so it's up to ITV or Studio Canal (depending on the title).

re: The Official Alfred Hitchcock on Blu-ray & UHD Thread

From Blu-ray.com--
As part of its 100th Anniversary this year, Universal Studios will unveil the results of its extensive film restoration campaign. Beginning this year, thirteen Universal titles will benefit from the studio's labors. The list includes:

The Birds

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Universal's Technical Operations Head Michael Daruty stresses the thoroughness of this project, as "the restorations...took three to six months each and cost $250,000 to $600,000 per title."

Daruty also hinted at similar film treatment in the future, noting that "this was a commitment by the company to say, 'We're gonna devote funding and most probably continue that effort year over year, to try and preserve and restore the legacy of the company...whether we're gonna get our money back in that first year or not.' "

...the studio's official press release includes a detail that "highly anticipated Blu-ray releases of Universal's Classic Monster and Alfred Hitchcock series" will street later in the year, which bodes well for expecting The Birds...
The word 'series' makes me hopeful that the Hitchcock box mentioned in the Universal post on Criterion Forum is indeed coming on 9/4. This is really shaping up to be the year of Hitchcock!

Not a particularly glowing review of the transfer (though the inherent softness of the source material is a caveat), but at least the extras were ported over.

I'm curious what the file size is on Spellbound - Notorious' feature size is 41 GB, which is pretty healthy, though it is an 130-minute movie.

January 24th can't come fast enough - looks to be a banner week for catalog titles.

No, I planned on buying them from B & N during their current B2G1 sale - they'd work out to roughly $10.78 each plus tax with a 15% coupon applied to one.
